My first Easter

Uncle Joe is showing off his new great-niece on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967.

My mom lived with her Aunt Mary Lou and Uncle Joe while she attended school at Geneva College in their home town of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. This is the same town where my father grew up and then also attended Geneva. So once they had married and moved away from Pennsylvania, my parents always looked forward to going back to Beaver Falls for holidays.

Easter Sunday was on March 26 in 1967, so I was just four months old. After going to morning mass, my parents took me around to the relatives for little visits. These photos are with Aunt Mary Lou, Uncle Joe and two of their three sons (Tom and Dick), and the photo shoot took place in their front yard.

These photos are very special to me because I’m pretty sure they’re the only ones I have of my Uncle Joe. He always made me feel so special when we visited their house, and I loved him dearly. But we lost him quite young because his heart couldn’t hold out long enough for the transplant he awaited. He was only 51 when he passed away.

I tend to wait and wait to work with photos that are special to me. I keep thinking that I have to get better at scrapping before I tackle the really important ones. But when will I be good enough at this craft to properly honor the special photos? The answer, I’ve realized, is both never and right now. So I just did it. I memorialized the occasion and the people whom I love and miss. And that’s good enough for me.

Product/technique notes

The colors in BasicGrey’s “Serenade” collection worked so well with my vintage photos.

Easter morning 2013

We had just been to 7:30 am Easter mass.

It has been too long since I had an overlap in time to scrap and motivation to scrap. Geez, I’ve missed it! So I finally finished up this page, which I started about a week before Easter. It’s a tripod-assisted selfie we took right after returning home from Easter mass last year. Matt only puts on a sports coat for Christmas and Easter, so I have to take advantage of the moment.

Product/technique notes

I had to dig deeeeeep in my stash to find these 2006 papers from Kelly Panacci for Sandylion. But I still like them, and they match my dress so well! I cut the daisies and title on the Silhouette Cameo. And I don’t know if you can see it, but I hand-stitched a big circle in turquoise embroidery thread to pull everything together.

Easy as pie

My mom is so cute in this photo!

Mom and Dad married in June 1965, and not long after that Dad left his teaching job for a position as an investigator with the government. This new job required some pretty extensive training, so Mom and Dad had to live for a time in New Jersey while he attended classes. This photo was taken in their New Jersey apartment in July 1966. Mom was about five months pregnant with me. On this day she decided to bake her new husband a pie for the first time. How wonderful that they snapped a photo of it!

Mom says that she remembers the pumpkin pie filling was really good, but the crust left a lot to be desired. 🙂

Product/technique notes

I used the following PageMaps sketch as my inspiration and hand stitched the circles. Hand stitching always feels right on a layout about something else hand-made, don’t you think? The patterned papers are from Little Yellow Bicycle’s “Feels Like Home” collection. I designed and cut the title with the Silhouette Cameo.

My nana rocks

My nana was always up for a bit of fun!

Throughout my youth our family always went to Pennsylvania to spend Thanksgiving with our extended family there. In 1983, when this photo was taken, we had all just gorged on the sumptuous Thanksgiving feast and then cleaned up to enjoy some games and pie. Someone pulled out this pair of headphones, and they somehow ended up on Nana’s head. She rocks.

Product/technique notes

The March challenge at My Mind’s Eye is to use three or more washi tapes on a project, and this is my entry in that challenge. Everything on this page is from their “Collectable > Unforgettable” collection, and do you see the strips of washi across the bottom of each envelope? I used the We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board to create those envelopes.

Easter 1982

Aunt Mary Lou and Earl had just returned from their honeymoon before coming to spend Easter with us.

After getting married in February 1982, Aunt Mary Lou and Earl went to Holland for their honeymoon. Later that spring they came to spend Easter with us at our house. After dinner, they pulled out their album to share the photos from the trip, and that’s when my brother took this Easter photo.

Product/technique notes

I liked this sketch from Life. Paper. Scrapbook. and decided to follow it to create my page using papers from Carta Bella’s “Traditions” collection. I know they’re not traditional Easter colors, but they went so well with the photo! I designed and cut my title using the Silhouette Cameo.
