I wanted to pull together a few photos of me and my mom for this page. Once I had selected these three I realized that in each we were “hugging around the neck.” Thus, my title was born!

Product/technique notes

I bought two of the We R Memory Keepers Sew Ribbon punches when they first came out, but I haven’t really found a lot of uses for them yet. When I saw this Creative Scrappers sketch, I instantly saw a use for my unused tools! The ribbons and some of the papers are old American Crafts patterns, and I also used old My Mind’s Eye and Memory Makers papers.

The 24th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch, which I’m proud to have designed, and play along. This sketch came with the song “Better together” by Jack Johnson.

This is my final challenge with the Scrap & Music team. I have so enjoyed being a part of this new endeavor since it started a year ago. I’ve loved creating sketches for people around the world to use as inspiration in their scrapbooking. And designing with sketches and music together provides a real kick to the creative engine; I can highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it. Thank you to Scrap & Music for a great year! I wish them more and more success over time.

My layout

I really like how looking at the lyrics to a song can force me to pull a layout together that wouldn’t have otherwise happened. As I was reading the lyrics to “Better Together” the line “I believe in memories they look so, so pretty when I sleep” jumped out at me. Obviously, I believe in memory keeping, so I thought about using a set of photos on this page that I couldn’t capture again.

In the summer of 2000, my father’s side of the family planned a reunion. We held it at my cousin, Robbie’s house in Pennsylvania. It was a wonderful day of togetherness, and we took a lot of photos. But before the day ended we pulled together some smaller family photos. The left shot is of my father and his two sisters, Frances and Mary Lou. The right photo is of my parents, brother, Matt and me. Because we have lost both my dad and my Aunt Bubbles (Frances) since this reunion, these photos are precious.

Product/technique notes

I used a combination of products from We R Memory Keepers’ “Happy Campers” and Lily Bee Design’s “Family Portrait” collections to create this page. I created the title in the Silhouette software and cut it on my Cameo.

My title was a no-brainer, considering that imp was the first word to occur to me when I saw this photo.

This is just a photo of me at around two years old, in my pajamas, grinning for the camera. I don’t mind saying I was pretty cute!

Product/technique notes

I used the March week 2 sketch at Let’s Get Sketchy when creating this page. The papers are a mix of older American Crafts for the background and Jillibean Soup’s “Blossom Soup” collection 6×6 pad. I created the outer edge design with a Martha Stewart punch set and designed and cut the title on my Silhouette Cameo.

Isn't Phil adorable in his little boy glasses? And I just love my red shoes.

My layout

I really liked the line from Adele’s song, “We were born and raised in a summery haze.” I could feel that. So I found an old photo from one of the summers of my childhood. It was July 1971; Phil was three years old and I was four. We’re posing for this photo in our driveway, dressed in the cute little outfits Mom always put on us. And we were obviously ready for anything.

Parting shots

It's always hard to say goodbye at the airport.

Matt always takes lots of photos when I hand the camera over to him. Often he just shoots and shoots without even trying to set up a shot or focus. I’ll admit that I usually get a little exasperated that he doesn’t “try harder” to get a few good photos, but in this case I really liked how it worked out. My brother, Phil, was about to get onto an airplane to head back to North Carolina after spending a great week with us, and Matt captured all the emotions of our goodbye.

When I opened my photo-organizer software to choose three pictures to use on this layout (based on the sketch below), I realized that I didn’t want to edit out any of them. I wanted to show all the moments. So here are 15 little emotion-filled candids…and don’t miss the one that’s not like the others.

Product/technique notes

I followed the sketch below for my layout and will be entering it into the Creative Scrappers sketch challenge. The papers are from Colorbok and Crate Paper. I designed and cut the title on my Cameo as well as using the arrow cut file provided at Creative Scrappers.
