Hello friend card

March 29, 2020 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

I created this "hello friend" fruit card for the Encouraging Cards for Seniors challenge at Ellen Hutson's blog.

I’m entering this card in Ellen Hutson’s Encouraging Cards for Seniors challenge so it can be sent to a quarantined resident at a senior center in Washington state. I truly enjoyed making this and hope it brings some joy to the recipient.

Just saying hello

October 10, 2019 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

Just saying hello card

I’m entering this card in the September challenge at A Blog Named Hero, which stipulates that you fashion your card after another designer. My card is inspired by Gina K of Gina K Designs—specifically her wreath-builder cards.

Product/technique notes

I created this 4.25-inch square card using stamps from three Hero Arts sets:

  • Stamp & cut flowers
  • Color layering ice cream
  • Everyday sayings

I stamped everything in distress oxide inks and then added shading with colored pencils. The metallic touches were added with rose gold pigment ink.

Grand reopening of art-classes.com

October 20, 2018 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

There are so many wonderful ways to find your way to art—and find yourself through art.

I, like many crafty people, have wended my way through a number of media over the years. Some crafts I try and move on from quickly; some I will keep for a lifetime. Crochet (which I learned in grade school at our public library) and papercrafting have lasted the longest. My scrapbooking obsession led to my interest in coloring and card making. And that’s how I found Sandy Allnock.

Sandy AllnockOnce I started looking for online resources about card making, I heard about Operation Write Home, a nonprofit that Sandy founded to send handmade cards to deployed soldiers. Then I found her YouTube channel, and I’ve been watching her fabulous, fun tutorials ever since!

Sandy is an artist with a generous spirit and a natural talent for teaching. I have learned so much through her daily videos, and I own her Copic Jumpstart and Drawing 101 courses. I look forward to introducing my crafty self to my artist self with her guidance.

Don’t miss out on the grand reopening of Sandy’s art-classes.com website, with several discounts and wonderful giveaways. You won’t be sorry you took the leap.

Last first day

The story

This was the last of our traditional first-day-of-school photo shoots—Phil and me at the start of our senior year in the fall of 1984.

The sketch

This sketch is made for either three photos or one center photo and some surrounding patterned paper or journaling cards. If you make a layout based on this sketch, please link it up at the end of this post; I would just love to see what you’ve made with it.

The Constant Scrapper Sketch 5

Product/technique notes

I created this page with products from the Glitz Design Yours Truly collection and designed/cut the title with my Silhouette.
