Blogtoberfest sketch contest

October 10, 2014 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

I’m quite excited to announce my first sketch contest! I hope you’ll join me in some scrapping fun and that this sketch will inspire you to create a layout then come back to share it with me for the opportunity to win the prize shown below.

The sketch

This sketch is simple and celebratory, with room for one 4×6 photo (or two 4x3s) and a banner running down the side. If you make a layout based on this sketch, please link it up at the end of this post by October 31st and you’ll be entered for a chance to win a great prize that’s perfect for the upcoming holiday season.

My sample

My sample page is all about celebrating this fabulous photo of my dad as a boy. He’s showing off his muscles with his dad by his side. What a gem! I used papers from Echo Park and a banner from BasicGrey.

DadWithDad1940s_Daquila-Pardo

I followed this Constant Scrapper sketch to create a layout celebrating a wonderful black-and-white photo of my dad as a boy with his father.

The prize

Are you thinking about documenting your holiday fun this December? Well this prize package includes holiday-themed items to get your project going! Or you could use this kit to create your Christmas cards. Either way, it’s a fun, color-coordinated collection of yummy supplies.

TheConstantScrapperDocumentingDecemberGiveaway

This sketch contest prize package includes: 6x6 Hot Cocoa paper pad, glittered dimensional stars, rub-ons, page pockets, fabric labels, ribbon, Christmas phrases stamp, washi tape and a clear stamp set!

On a journey of selfie discovery

Taking good selfies is already a challenge, but try doing it in a darkened movie theater!

It’s always so fun to share something you love with someone you love. While visiting Mom and Phil in NC this summer, I took Phil to a matinee showing of “Guardians of the Galaxy” because I knew he was unlikely to go on his own but would really enjoy it. He did! We took these silly selfies to post to Facebook as we waited for the movie to begin. “We are Groot.”

Product/technique notes

I used pattern papers from October Afternoon, Jillibean Soup and Bella Blvd and followed this sketch from PageMaps and A Cherry on Top.

Would you like to use this title on a page of your own? I’m making it available as a freebie*; just click on the image below to download the Silhouette file. And if you do use it please come back and leave a comment on this post so I can ooh and ahh over it. 🙂

Write. Click. Scrapbook.

October 5, 2012 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

I am so excited and honored today because I am one of two designers being featured on Write. Click. Scrapbook. as part of their Talent Abounds Week! If you are visiting me from the WCS site, I am so pleased to have you here.

I thought that seeing as my WCS post is about my love for scrapbooking with sketches, I would create a sketch for you to download and a sample layout based on it. Because I often design pages with vintage photos from my childhood, and my parents—as so many people did with film cameras—took only a few photos of most events, I find myself needing a lot of one- or two-photo sketches. So I designed this one-photo sketch to work with.

The truth is that yesterday was our 15th anniversary, so I wanted to scrap one of our wedding photos and thought that a double-wedding-ring-quilt look would be great to try. Here is the sketch:

If you use this sketch I would love to see your layout!

And here is my layout:

IDo_Daquila-Pardo

The colors in the BasicGrey Plumeria patterned papers were perfect because of how they went with my bouquet.

I also created the cut file for the quilt element so that I could cut it out on my Silhouette. If you have a Silhouette and would like to try this file, just leave me a comment asking for it (be sure to include your email address) and I will send it to you.

I want to thank Write. Click. Srapbook. again for this wonderful opportunity to appear on their blog today. I have so much respect for their designers and writers and really find great inspiration there. And thank you for visiting my blog today. I do hope you’ll leave me a quick message to let me know you were here and I hope you’ll come back again. 🙂

We have a winner!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog this week for the Creative Scrappers blog hop. Out of all the sweet comments that were left, Nancy’s was the winning message. Congratulations, Nancy! You have won a copy of the Creative Scrappers Creating with Sketches book. I will be sending you an email soon about this.

And now, here is my latest layout:

OhSnap2_Daquila-Pardo

We were having ice cream at Dairy Queen when we "took" these photos.

The funny little story that this page documents happened in July. When Matt and I went to Dairy Queen one weekend, I took along our new little point-and-shoot camera. I asked Matt to pose with me for a quick self-portrait before we started eating. We smiled and I took the photo. Then, while I was still holding the camera, it started clicking off more rapid-fire shots, even though my finger was no longer on the shutter release button! It took a few shots before I could figure out what was happening.

Well, earlier that day I had been fiddling with the camera settings and then promptly forgotten that one of the selections I made was for something called “smile detection” (whatever that was). We figured it out pretty quickly because every time we laughed at what was happening, it snapped more photos.

It was just a funny little moment…but worth recording (especially since we had so many photos of it!).

Creative Scrappers blog hop

September 5, 2012 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 28 Comments

Thanks for visiting my stop along the
Creating With Sketches blog hop
The members of the Creative Scrappers design team are excited to show off some of our favorite CS sketches and layouts. To thank you for participating, we are offering a free copy of the Creative Scrappers’ ebook of sketches, Creating with Sketches by Kristine Davidson. Please leave a comment on this post for a chance to win.

For this hop I decided to show off this sketch from Kristine’s book:
Creating With Sketches page 18 sketch

I have found that when I really love a sketch, putting together a layout that I love is so easy. This sketch of Kristine’s inspired me to pull out this 1973 photo of me, my mom and my brother at Niagra Falls. Because it was August, I imagine that this was our family’s last little trip together before Phil and I started first grade. Aww! And the Echo Park Everyday Eclectic collection proved to be a perfect fit for the colors in my photo and the feel I wanted my layout to have:

Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win the sketch book.

Here are a few other designs I love that I’ve created in the past using Creative Scrappers sketches:

This photo of Mom and me is from June 1989, right after Phil and I had graduated from college and moved back home.

I kept this page simple because I just wanted to highlight the photo and the papers.
