The story

These stick-your-head-and-hands-through-the-holes photo boards aren’t only for children, right? Good, because while we were pumpkin patching this year, Matt and I traded off embarrassing ourselves by popping our body parts through the holes! Now we are officially country folk. And 100% nuts.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned papers from Bella Blvd’s Finally Fall collection and Simple Stories’ Harvest Lane collection. They went together so well!

While recently in North Carolina visiting Mom and the bro, I found out—much to my surprise and horror—that Mom had never tasted the autumnal delight that is a pumpkin spice latte. Phil and I resolved to resolve that deficit in her life experience and bundled her into the car and off to the nearest Starbucks.

One sip in, it was clear on her face that we had changed Mom’s life. And after she had drained the last of the sweet goodness from her grande to-go cup she said, “This was my first PSL, but it won’t be my last! I’m going to make sure to get one of these a week from now on.”

Phil and I looked at each other knowingly. You’re welcome, Mom.

Product/technique notes

I followed the Let’s Get Sketchy sketch below and used products from the Shimelle True Stories collection. I used two different roller date stamps (“That warrants a fist pump” and “The sweet life”) and two coffee-related stamps from the Paper Smooches Cyber Cafe set. I covered the coffee beans in Glossy Accents to make them look a little more real.

The story

Sometimes even people without little kids like to make a trip to the pumpkin patch for photos. Just sayin’.

I used patterned papers from Moxie and various felt, chipboard, and glittered leaves by MAMBI.

The story

Last July we celebrated Mom’s 75th birthday! She certainly doesn’t look her age, does she? Phil took these shots of the birthday girl blowing out her candles after the lovely dinner they shared.

The patterned papers are from Shimelle’s True Stories collection, the stickers are from Carta Bella’s It’s a Celebration collection, and the chipboard is from Crate Paper’s Confetti collection.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our second challenge of our anniversary month! Grab the sketch and play along for lots of prize opportunities.

The story

My husband’s mom was raising her family of five (aged 3-14) in Detroit in the 1970s. Sick of the poverty and danger surrounding them, she decided that she wanted to give them a better life. So she packed up their belongings and started driving toward Atlanta.

While traveling through the mountains of North Carolina, they stopped at a campground to stay the night. But when they arose the next morning, their car wouldn’t start. Matt clearly remembers living out of their car for a couple of weeks while their mom found a waitressing job so she could make the money to have the car fixed.

While all this was happening, she fell in love with the area and decided not to move on to Georgia after all! Instead, she bought a house in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and stayed there quite happily for the rest of her life.

In these circa 1979 photos, she and the kids were planting their first round of tomatoes in their new yard.

The patterned papers are from the Simple Stories Bloom and Grow collection. I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.
