Merry and bright

December 14, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

Merry and bright is a one-photo scrapbook page that uses the Heidi Swapp Christmas collection.

When Mom came to visit for Thanksgiving and my birthday in 2006, we took a day trip to Fredericksburg. On our way out of town that night we saw this. These trees were just one small part of the lights display on the electric company’s grounds. It was delightful.

Product/technique notes

I was inspired by the Paper Issues December mood board below. I chose to use these Heidi Swapp Christmas papers because I wanted a page that used a good bit of red, black and white mixed with traditional holiday colors. Plus this background paper with the stars at the top and built-in title was just perfect for my photo. The metal snowflake button is an old one from my stash, and the wood buttons are from American Crafts. The poinsettia and holly vellum stickers are probably a dozen years old, and I’m so happy to have found a way to use them.

Note: I’m also submitting this to the Paper Issues Owl I Want for Christmas link party.

Nature’s bounty

July 4, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

Nature's bounty is a two-photo scrapbook layout about my container garden.

I’m not a big gardener, but I do like to have a few containers planted with herbs and such. This year we added a couple of cherry tomato plants to the mix, and I was thrilled to see the first little baby ‘mater ripen the other day!

Product/technique notes

I used this Let’s Get Sketchy sketch and patterned papers from K&Company’s Sweet Nectar line. The 5-star rating stamp is from Ormolu’s Word Up set. The mason jar is fussy cut from a Dear Lizzy Neapolitan pattern, and the title is on a 3×4 card from We R Memory Keepers Vintage Garden. I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.

The brunch bunch: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

July 1, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 2 Comments

The brunch bunch is a 3-photo scrapbook page based on the July 1, 2015 sketch at Stuck?! Sketches.

Today Stuck?! Sketches is revealing its first sketch challenge of July, and the design team layouts for this one are awesome. Please join us over at the blog and allow the sketch and the design team inspire you to play along. We have great sponsor prizes up for grabs.

Stuck?! Sketches July 1, 2015

These photos show my friend, Audrey (wearing pink), with the group of friends she invited to attend the May Ladies for Life brunch held by the Coalition for Life. She hosted us all and decorated the table really beautifully. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning—surrounded by sweet women and listening to an impassioned speaker on an important topic. For added fun there was also a photo booth with a pile of crazy hats and props, so we took a bunch of kooky photos together.

Product/technique notes

If I have items in my scrapbook stash that I still like and they go with my photos, I don’t care how old they are—I’m going to use them! I’m not ashamed to admit that the papers and stickers on this layout are from the BasicGrey Euphoria collection from 2008!

Thankful for such happy days together

May 8, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

This is a one-page, one-photo scrapbook page using My Mind's Eye products.

This photos is from a really happy time. It was Easter in 1992, and I was living back at home with Mom and Dad in Willoughby and working as a conference planner at ASM International. Spenser was just over a year old and was a pure joy in our lives. Although Phil was living in Pennsylvania, he had come home to spend Easter with us. So things were pretty great.

This photo reminds me to be thankful for happy days.

Product/technique notes

I created this layout using products from the My Mind’s Eye Now & Then > Ginger collection.

Danger zone

March 21, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

I wanted to do a page about how important it is to me that Matt and I share a similar sense of humor, but how do you sum up a couple’s humor in photos? Why not include a photo from a show we get a lot of laughs out of!

Archer is a bawdy cartoon about an international spy agency where the employees’ best efforts are geared toward undermining and betraying one another. It’s shocking and hilarious (but certainly not for family viewing). It’s just one of many styles of humor that we enjoy, but I thought it would work well for my page because the artwork from the show is so well drawn (and Archer is very good looking). 😉 The title of my layout is Danger Zone because it’s the favorite song of the main character and a frequent joke on the show.

My journaling reads: “Finding a partner with a compatible sense of humor is so important. Life isn’t always easy, and being able to laugh together is essential.”

Product/technique notes

The top of this page is layered with strips of patterned paper to from a sort of awning effect. I cut the title out of the background cardstock and then backed it with a striped yellow pattern so it would show through. The mustache is a cut file from the Silhouette store.
