Matt and I were heading out the front door to take our evening walk, when I made him stop so I could photograph our feet. He thought it was silly, but I thought it would be a great way to document this routine of ours. Nothing is too silly to do if you have a scrapbook page in mind—am I right?

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper from the We R Notable collection and designed/cut the title on the Silhouette. The Meet me in the sunshine diecut is from Amy Tangerine, and the flair is from Panda Eight.

Just add color

It was Easter 1997, Matt and I were engaged, and my family got together at Mom and Dad’s house to decorate eggs.

This photo was one I almost didn’t scrap because it was an evening shot taken in low light. Too much shadow. Too much color cast. But then I decided to turn it black and white with color just on the eggs and the bag of Reese’s Easter eggs we were snacking on. That set my theme: just add color.

The background paper is from KI Memories (2008). I’ve held on to this paper for years just waiting for the right project to come along for it. This is the one. Its coloring book look was perfect for my plan.

I designed and cut out the grid of circles from white cardstock and then used a variety of Distress Inks to create the watercolor disks. When I began this project, I imagined making disks to put in each open circle. But once I got going on it I realized that I loved how the vines and flowers of the background paper peeked through. So I stopped at five.

I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette, and that was that. I didn’t think this page needed any more embellishment than the wild colors and patterns with the black and white.

I was inspired on this project by the Paper Issues March pinspire me mood board and the Shimelle circular scrapbooking inspiration challenge.

Distress Ink lifting birthday card

I want to wish my childhood friend, Kathy, a wonderful birthday today. This is the card I created for her using a technique Jennifer McGuire calls Distress Ink lifting.

After heat embossing your stamped design with white embossing powder, you completely cover your paper with an intense Distress Ink color (I used Mermaid Lagoon). Using a small paintbrush and water, you wick or lift the color away from the stamped image just by dabbing the water inside the lines. Then you use the brush to add other Distress Ink colors while it’s still wet. What remains of the background color blends with the added colors and creates this look. I used Mowed Lawn on the leaves and Tattered Rose, Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, Picked Raspberries, and Festive Berries on the petals.

1968 bridesmaids

My parents met in college while they were studying to become teachers. Before they were really even dating (but my dad already knew he loved my mom), they found their first teaching jobs in the same school system. When they attended their orientation session for new teachers in the Painesville Township school system they met Mary Ann. She and Mom became friends, and these August 1968 photos are from when Mom served as a bridesmaid in Mary Ann’s wedding.

I love the colors and clothing and hair styles in these photos. The top one is from the rehearsal dinner (Mom is fourth from the left), and the bottom one is during the receiving line after the ceremony (Mom is third from the left).

Product/technique notes

Although I didn’t get this page finished in time to enter her challenge, I really liked this sketch by Heather Leopard. I was happy to be able to use some older supplies from my stash for this page: the patterned paper is from the American Crafts Letterbox collection (2009), the flowers are from Prima (2010), and the rub ons are by Marcella for K&Co (really old). I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.
