American Crafts

1968 bridesmaids

March 5, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

1968 bridesmaids is a two-photo scrapbook page made with American Crafts papers and a sketch by Heather Leopard.

My parents met in college while they were studying to become teachers. Before they were really even dating (but my dad already knew he loved my mom), they found their first teaching jobs in the same school system. When they attended their orientation session for new teachers in the Painesville Township school system they met Mary Ann. She and Mom became friends, and these August 1968 photos are from when Mom served as a bridesmaid in Mary Ann’s wedding.

I love the colors and clothing and hair styles in these photos. The top one is from the rehearsal dinner (Mom is fourth from the left), and the bottom one is during the receiving line after the ceremony (Mom is third from the left).

Product/technique notes

Although I didn’t get this page finished in time to enter her challenge, I really liked this sketch by Heather Leopard. I was happy to be able to use some older supplies from my stash for this page: the patterned paper is from the American Crafts Letterbox collection (2009), the flowers are from Prima (2010), and the rub ons are by Marcella for K&Co (really old). I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.

Forever

February 28, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 8 Comments

Forever is a two-photo scrapbook layout using papers from American Crafts and a sketch from ScrapMuch.

Back on February 5th Matt and I celebrated the 20th anniversary of our first meeting. I’ve already posted a layout of the two of us from 1996, and now I have this one from 20 years later (we took a few selfies in our back yard).

It went by in the blink of an eye. Here’s to forever.

Product/technique notes

I followed this ScrapMuch sketch. My patterned papers are from American Crafts, the glitter stickers are from KI Memories, and the rub-on title is from Making Memories (2003!).

Our 2015 Christmas card design

December 22, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

Our Christmas card this year features an origami fold Christmas tree.

I felt like doing a little paper folding on my Christmas cards this year. So I did some searching on Pinterest for origami tutorials and found this one for a Christmas tree design. I used three squares—3 inches, 2.5 inches, and 2 inches—in various patterns and attached them to some American Crafts cards from their North Pole collection. I really like how they pop off the card when you pull them out of the envelope.

Everything still turns to gold: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

November 15, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 6 Comments

Everything still turns to gold is a one-photo scrapbook page designed using the November 15, 2015 sketch from Stuck Sketches.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our second challenge of November. The sketch is beautiful, and the prizes from 7 Dots Studio and Freckled Fawn are great. Why not play along with us?

Stuck Sketches November 15 2015 sketch

For this challenge we are partnering up with Scrap it with a Song, and they have chosen Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin as their inspiration song. You can find out all the details about how to play along with their challenge over on their blog.

I had another listen to Stairway to Heaven so that I could decide how to use its inspiration on a layout. And when I got to the line “Everything still turns to gold” it made me think of autumn leaves. So I pulled out this photo I took two years ago on a trip to see the fall colors up in Lost Maples State Natural Area in Texas. Isn’t that spider web glorious against the colors of the turning leaves?

Product/technique notes

The background paper on my layout is from American Crafts. I loved it for this page because it imitates the structure of a cobweb. The rest of the patterns are from a BasicGrey Indian Summer 6×6 pad. The die cuts are from Crate Paper, and the Feels like fall fabric sticker is from My Little Bicycle. The circle built of leaves is a cut file from the Silhouette store, and I designed and cut the title on the Silhouette as well.

Third grade portraits

September 27, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

Third grade portraits is a scrapbook page based on a ScrapMuch? September sketch.

I contemplated titling this page “Disco school portraits.” I mean, get a load of those collars! And my brother’s leisure suit. And my pin-curled hair. There’s an awful lot going on here, so I’ll just leave you to your open-mouthed staring.

😉

Product/technique notes

I followed this September 25th ScrapMuch? sketch, and I used patterned papers from the American Crafts Nightfall collection, die cuts from Maggie Holmes and a piece of flair from Studio Calico. The alphabet across the top is a Silhouette cut file.
