Third grade portraits

September 27, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

Third grade portraits is a scrapbook page based on a ScrapMuch? September sketch.

I contemplated titling this page “Disco school portraits.” I mean, get a load of those collars! And my brother’s leisure suit. And my pin-curled hair. There’s an awful lot going on here, so I’ll just leave you to your open-mouthed staring.

😉

Product/technique notes

I followed this September 25th ScrapMuch? sketch, and I used patterned papers from the American Crafts Nightfall collection, die cuts from Maggie Holmes and a piece of flair from Studio Calico. The alphabet across the top is a Silhouette cut file.

Make mine a double

September 26, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

Make mine a double is a one-photo scrapbook layout based on a ScrapMuch? September sketch.

It doesn’t feel much like fall yet in Austin, Texas, so I have to get my cozy feelings from a mug of pumpkin spice tea spiked with pumpkin spice creamer. Here’s to the first taste of pumpkin flavor in the fall. Yum-tastic!

Product/technique notes

I followed this ScrapMuch? September 11 sketch and used papers from the 6×6 Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go pad.

Today Stuck?! Sketches is revealing the September 1st sketch challenge, and it’s a great one. For this challenge we are also partnering with the design team from Scrap Our Stash by including an item from our stash for each of the letters in the word L-A-Y-E-R-S! If you combine the sketch with the stash-busting challenge you can enter your page for prizes at both sites!

Scrap Our Stash September Stash Challenge

It was a real challenge for me to think this way, but these are the items I used:
L = label
A = arrows
Y = yellow cardstock and crochet thread
E = enamel dots
R = rubber charms
S = Silhouette, stamp, staples, stickers, stitches

The story of these photos is a recent one. In early August I flew to North Carolina, where my Mom and brother live, to be with my mom while she had knee-replacement surgery. When you have that surgery the doctors tell you that you must have round-the-clock care for the first two weeks! So we activated Wonder Twin powers to care for our mom. But we decided that taking care of our mom’s every want and need wasn’t enough; her adorable dog, Raleigh, needed a bath as well. (I guess once you get into caregiver mode, you can’t easily turn it off.) Phil took some photos of our dog-washing adventure, and then I took the “after” photo. Raleigh looked beautiful!

Product/technique notes

The papers and stickers I used are from Echo Park’s Walking on Sunshine collection. The swirls are ancient rubber charms from KI Memories. I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette and hand-stitched the circles

Stuck?! Sketches August 15, 2015 sketch

Matt is a Marvel devotee from way back. He and his brother, Tom, collected comic books when they were boys, but while Matt’s allegiance was to Marvel, Tom loved DC Comics. Each month when the new issues came out they would go down to the hobby store to make their purchase. Even though he loved his collection, Matt tells me that when the price went up to 55 cents a piece it became too rich for his blood and he gave up on it (funny detail).

Now as an adult Matt has shared his love of superheroes with me. We don’t read comic books together, but who needs to with all the comics-based movies that have come out in recent years? And I admit that I love them and look forward to them as much as Matt does, even though I don’t know as much about their origin stories as he does. I just love to root for a hero on his/her journey.

In this photo we are at the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Austin awaiting the start of Ant-Man on its opening day, July 17th.

Product/technique notes

I used some older Bella Blvd (Mr.Boy) and BasicGrey papers and designed and cut the burst shapes and title on my Silhouette.

The boys of summer

August 12, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

The boys of summer is a scrapbook page made with Echo Park's Walking on Sunshine collection.

My brother and I started college at the same time and lived in freshmen dorms that were situated next to each other, so we had a lot of friends in common. Rich lived in Phil’s dorm, and we both quickly became friends with him because he was smart, loyal and lots of fun.

As we were wrapping up our first year and packing to go home for the summer Phil invited Rich to come up to Willoughby for a visit; this photo is from that July 1986 visit.

Product/technique notes

I followed this Boys Rule sketch and used products from the Echo Park Walking on Sunshine collection for this page. I had a lot of fun with the hand stitching on this one, too.
