Worth the drive

Worth the drive by Janice Daquila-Pardo

The story

We enjoy driving out to Sweet Berry Farms in Marble Falls to wander through the piles of pumpkins, wonder at the sea of sunflowers, and visit with the gang of goats. But the best part of our day is savoring their homemade pumpkin ice cream. Just delicious!

Product/technique notes

I followed a PageMaps sketch for this page, used patterns from the 6×6 Bo Bunny Beautifully Brisk paper pad, and designed and cut the title with my Cricut Maker. I added hand stitching in coordinating colors.

Celebrating life

Celebrating life

The story

This photo marked the end of a long, difficult day.

That morning (Thursday, November 18, 2004) we laid my father to rest after he lost a short, intense battle with cancer. We followed the beautiful funeral Mass with friends, family, and food back at Mom and Dad’s house. It was sad and surreal and comforting and all the feelings that kind of day usually holds.

These are the family members who stayed to the very end of the day with us. Matt took a group photo to mark the occasion of our being together to celebrate Daddy’s life. I am particularly grateful to have this considering that we have since lost four more in this party (Mary Lou first, then Bubbles, Duffy, and recently Earl).

Product/technique notes

I created this page with products from the Carta Bella Moments & Memories collection and designed/cut the title with my Silhouette.

Love you

Love you

The story

I have always really loved this photo of my mom and dad from Easter 1983, but it had terrible color and extreme shadows and highlights. I have color corrected and tweaked it a few times over the years, but I had not printed it to scrap because I was never happy with the results.

Then I recently realized that converting it to black-and-white might camouflage some of those problems, making it good enough to print. BINGO!

Product/technique notes

I created this page with three of the patterns from the AdornIt Chamberry collection, which I have been hoarding for too many years awaiting the right photo. The glitter Thickers title, hand sewing, and punched butterflies are all I thought it needed to complete the look.

Re-homing Hector

Re-homing Hector

The story

We found this beautiful beastie walking down the sidewalk on our street, far from any water. So we scooped him up and gave him a ride out to Brushy Creek. We named him Hector and wished him a happy, healthy life before Matt turned toward the water and tossed him in. I was shocked that he didn’t just put Hector near the water and let him decide whether to go in, and I said so. Matt blanched when he realized that he had just assumed that Hector swam. We quickly researched what kind of turtle he was and were greatly relieved to learn that he was a red-eared slider. Thank goodness, they’re strong swimmers!

Product/technique notes

The patterned papers are from the Pebbles Lakeside 6×6 paper pad. I cut out the title on my Silhouette, and I hand stitched the zigzag stitch down the center.
