hand stitching

My 2 guys

I'll admit that the hand stitching I did on this page almost maimed me.

While my baby bro was visiting us in Austin at the beginning of the year, the three of us took a walk through our neighborhood and shot photos along the way. I really love this one of my two favorite guys in the whole world. And that’s it: I love the photo and I love them. And that’s more than a good enough reason to do a scrapbook page!

Product/technique notes

Even though this is a simple design, quite a lot of technique went into completing it. I created the sunburst shapes and cut them with the Silhouette. Then I hand stitched around all the edges (I asked my husband to remind me of the great pain this caused me if he ever hears me mention planning to do it again) with gray embroidery floss. And then I cut the 2 and the cloud, again on the Silhouette Cameo. The background pattern is an ancient (read 2007 or so) Cloud 9 design; the rest of the patterns are from a Crate Paper “Story Teller” 6×6 pad; and the 3×4 card is from Teresa Collins’ “Family Stories.”

Wild thing, I think I love you

Wild thing ... you make my heart sing ... you make everything

Following the triangle trend that’s raging in scrapbook design right now, I pulled out a corner punch and a 6×6 pad of patterned paper to create this really simple page. That’s our sweet kitty, Lucy, whose ruff was looking especially wild the day I took this photo. Aren’t her eyes gorgeous?

Product/technique notes

The background paper is from an older Crate Paper collection, and the 6×6 paper pad is their “On Trend” collection (I used almost every pattern). I created the title on my Cameo and added a little border of hand stitching to hold it all together and direct the eye.

Summer ritual

Going to Ski Shores for lunch has become a summer ritual for us.

There’s a place in Austin that Matt and I like to be sure to visit each summer (at least once). It’s a little restaurant called “Ski Shores” that’s right on a part of the river that the boats frequent. We love to hang out and watch the boaters come in for a break and a meal, look out over the water at the gorgeous homes on the other side and watch the turtles come to the surface for hand-outs. It’s casual (most people are wearing bathing suits), quirky and relaxing. So I’m recording it as one of our summer rituals because it really does feel like summer to us to have lunch there.

These photos were taken on Labor Day weekend 2012.

Product/technique notes

I created this layout using patterned papers from My Mind’s Eye’s 6×6 pad, “Summer Splash” and am entering it in their July “red, white and blue” challenge (even though I had to use that sunny yellow cardstock in the background). I also did some hand stitching to create the sun and the banner elements.
