The boys of summer

August 12, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

The boys of summer is a scrapbook page made with Echo Park's Walking on Sunshine collection.

My brother and I started college at the same time and lived in freshmen dorms that were situated next to each other, so we had a lot of friends in common. Rich lived in Phil’s dorm, and we both quickly became friends with him because he was smart, loyal and lots of fun.

As we were wrapping up our first year and packing to go home for the summer Phil invited Rich to come up to Willoughby for a visit; this photo is from that July 1986 visit.

Product/technique notes

I followed this Boys Rule sketch and used products from the Echo Park Walking on Sunshine collection for this page. I had a lot of fun with the hand stitching on this one, too.

Stuck?! Sketches August 1 2015 sketch

This circa 1977 photo is of my husband and his family stopping for a rest while on a hike on the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina. Matt is the cutie on the left leaning on the tree (with attitude).

Product/technique notes

I used patterned papers from LYB “Fern & Forest,” My Little Shoebox “Green,” Pebbles “Lakeside” and We R Memory Keepers “Happy Campers” collections. The chipboard pieces are from Crate Paper “The Pier” and “Story Teller.” Then I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.

In training

July 31, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 4 Comments

This scrapbook layout uses two photos and products from Pink Paislee's "Switchboard" line.

I figure if my mom thought taking pictures of us while potty training would be cute, then my layout using those photos would by default also be cute! đŸ˜‰

I hope no one is grossed out by the idea, but I actually think these photos are pretty darling. I am putting my potty time to good use by applying imaginary cream to my legs (1968), and Phil is—of course—reading a magazine (1970).

Product/technique notes

I was inspired twofold on this project. I used the sketch below from My Scraps & More. And I used elements from Paper Issue’s mood board right below the sketch (the circles; the all caps lettering; and the citrus slices, which inspired my twine pie chart effect)!

Paper Issues July 31 2015 mood board

Most of the products I used are from Pink Paislee’s “Switchboard” 6×6 paper pad with some chipboard from Crate Paper. I cut the title on my Silhouette.

Blue-sky thinking

July 29, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 3 Comments

Blue-sky thinking is a scrapbook page using BasicGrey What's Up supplies.

Blue-sky thinking is defined as brain storming, original/visionary thinking, out-of-the-box thinking, creative thinking or planning far into the future (which may or may not materialize). When I look at this 1987 photo of myself from college, it makes me think of what a blue-sky time that was in my life.

I was just starting my junior year at Ohio University with a pre-quarter Residence Life training, and we were all dressed up to go to a banquet being held at the conclusion of the long week. I was excited, full of ideas and looking forward to the future.

Product/technique notes

I was inspired by the following sketch from ScrapMuch?. Most of the products I used are from BasicGrey’s “What’s Up” collection. The stickers I used in my title are old Making Memories and October Afternoon alphas.

The brunch bunch: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

July 1, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 2 Comments

The brunch bunch is a 3-photo scrapbook page based on the July 1, 2015 sketch at Stuck?! Sketches.

Today Stuck?! Sketches is revealing its first sketch challenge of July, and the design team layouts for this one are awesome. Please join us over at the blog and allow the sketch and the design team inspire you to play along. We have great sponsor prizes up for grabs.

Stuck?! Sketches July 1, 2015

These photos show my friend, Audrey (wearing pink), with the group of friends she invited to attend the May Ladies for Life brunch held by the Coalition for Life. She hosted us all and decorated the table really beautifully. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning—surrounded by sweet women and listening to an impassioned speaker on an important topic. For added fun there was also a photo booth with a pile of crazy hats and props, so we took a bunch of kooky photos together.

Product/technique notes

If I have items in my scrapbook stash that I still like and they go with my photos, I don’t care how old they are—I’m going to use them! I’m not ashamed to admit that the papers and stickers on this layout are from the BasicGrey Euphoria collection from 2008!
