Stuck?! Sketches November 15, 2016

The story

Mom has an adorable Cairn terrier named Raleigh. When I go to visit them in North Carolina, Raleigh and I spend a lot of quality time together snuggling and taking walks. He loves me, and I him. One day while I was there this past September, he needed to go for his afternoon walk while it was raining lightly. Did he need to wear his little rain jacket that day? Not strictly speaking, no. But I certainly couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be seen walking with such a dapper partner, could I?

Product/technique notes

I used patterned papers from Jillibean Soup and Doodlebug Design and designed the title and cut it on the Silhouette.

Here’s looking at you, kid

Here's looking at you, kid

On this beautiful Friday in May, Matt and I decided to cut out of work early and grab a late lunch at our favorite taco joint. While we waited for our order to be brought to us at our sunny spot on their patio, we snapped a photo of each other taking a photo of each other. Who said we don’t know how to party?

Product/technique notes

I used older product from My Mind’s Eye and Jillibean Soup and cut the title with my Silhouette.

Cub Scouts circus

October 29, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

Cub Scout circus is a two-photo scrapbook page using an October 2015 sketch from ScrapMuch?

My brother and I were in Cub/Boy Scouts and Brownies/Girl Scouts in the 1970s and learned so much by participating. These photos are from a circus that Phil’s Cub Scouts pack put on for their families in October 1975.

Go ahead, you can say it: That’s 40 years ago this month! You can remember things from that long ago? I know. I amaze myself, too.

Phil is the cute little clown in the photo on the right. So, that explains a lot.

Product/technique notes

I followed the October 9th ScrapMuch sketch below and used patterns from the Jillibean Soup Witches Brew 6×6 paper pad. I created the title on my Silhouette (using the Big Top font for the word “circus”) and folded some rosettes as embellishments (they seemed circus-y to me, too).

I am also participating with this layout in the Scrap Our Stash Scraptoberfest challenge:

The lanky years

July 12, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

The lanky years is a one-photo scrapbook layout using Jillibean Soup products.

The first thing I thought of when I came upon this photo of me and my baby bro in the summer of 1982 was of how skinny we both were! That seemed like a good enough reason to do a layout. 🙂

Product/technique notes

I followed this June sketch from My Creative Scrapbook, used patterned papers from the Jillibean Soup Avocado Soup 6×6 paper pad and designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.

Piano recital

Piano recital scrapbook page by Janice Daquila-Pardo

I was fortunate as a girl to be given piano lessons. Our church’s organist, Ms. Shimmels, would come to our house weekly and patiently work with me on theory and technique. I’ll admit that I loved it and hated it. I really wanted to be better at playing, but daily practice sessions were so hard to get excited about. It’s the age-old conundrum of the wannabe.

I loved to perform, though, so I did get excited about recitals. I practiced the heck out of my recital music, learning it so well that I would get to the end of the piece and not remember the details of having played it (like when you drive a familiar route on auto pilot).

Each year Ms. Shimmels’ students came together to perform for their families at the Fine Arts Association in Willoughby, and these photos are from our recital in the summer of 1978.

It was a really big deal to me, and my family treated it that way, too. My mom made this sweet yellow dress for the occasion (as she often did for my recitals over the years). And two of my aunts (Mary Lou and Rose) drove from Pennsylvania to be there for it.

I remember quite a lot about this special day, considering it was almost 37 years ago, and I’m grateful for everyone who worked together to make it happen.

Product/technique notes

I followed this Let’s Get Sketchy January sketch quite closely:

Most of the patterns I used are from Jillibean Soup’s “Chilled Cucumber Soup” collection. I designed the title and cut it on my Silhouette.
