Be the rainbow in someone else’s cloud

June 11, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 2 Comments

This one-photo scrapbook page uses Making Memories products.

I love rain, and I just didn’t know when we moved to a drought-prone state like Texas how much I would crave it. So our particularly rainy season this year has been fabulous.

And if you’re really lucky, at the end of a storm you get to see a rainbow (or two).

Product/technique notes

The patterned papers are from a 2010 Making Memories collection called Spring, and I combined them with die cuts and transparencies from the Pink Paislee’s Hello Sunshine collection.

Mother’s Day 2016 brunch: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

June 1, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 3 Comments

This one-photo scrapbook layout is based on the June 1, 2016 sketch by Stuck Sketches.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our first challenge of June! Grab the sketch and play along for a $25 chipboard pack from A2Z Scraplets or a $20 gift certificate from ScrapMuch.

Stuck Sketches June 1 2016

The story

My baby bro is so good about snapping photos to send to me when I’m not around for an event. This one is of the moment before he and Mom dug into their Mother’s Day brunch feast. I wish I could have been there to celebrate with them.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper and stickers from the We R Memory Keepers Farmer’s Market collection, crocheted around the edge of the circle to add some extra texture, and stamped and colored the coffee cup (using Copics) to stand in for the U in BRUNCH.

Living in a cool city: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

May 15, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 4 Comments

Living in a cool city is a two-photo, one-page scrapbook page based on the Stuck?! Sketches May 15 2016 sketch.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our second challenge of May. Grab the sketch and play along for a $20 gift certificate from Evalicious or a $25 gift certificate from Creative Embellishments.

Stuck?! Sketches May 15 2016 sketch

The story

Austin, where we have lived for going on 15 years, is pretty well known for being cool. For years it has made it somewhere onto many of the myriad “best places to live” lists. In fact, it famously celebrates its odd residents and culture with the unofficial slogan of “Keep Austin Weird.”

We’re well educated, high-tech, entrepreneurial, and fun. Well, at least as a whole we are. And we have tons of things to do for fun on any given day of the week.

You may have heard of a little music/film/interactive festival called South by Southwest (SXSW). Or perhaps you have friends who’ve been to the Austin City Limits music festival. Those are kind of a big deal. And there are so many other big beautiful events throughout the year that it’s impossible to keep up.

Matt was downtown one day during the mid-March interactive week of SXSW and snapped a few photos of the Mr. Robot Ferris wheel that they inserted into our skyline during the festival. And I thought for about the millionth time how cool it is to live in a place that celebrates in so many ways throughout the year. So I designed this page with images of two of the many (SXSW and the Kite Festival) ways.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper and stickers from the Echo Park Scoot collection and designed and cut the title and circle grid with my Silhouette Cameo. To mimic the look of the Ferris wheel I laced embroidery thread across the backgound circle like spokes.

Good day sunshine: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

May 1, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 4 Comments

Good day sunshine is a one-photo scrapbook layout based on the May 1 2016 Stuck?! Sketches sketch.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our first challenge of May. Grab the sketch and play along for some great prizes from Wycinanka and ScrapMuch.

Stuck?! Sketches May 1 2016

There’s an amazing resource called Carolina Tiger Rescue, which is a nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild. Fortunately, it’s in Pittsboro, NC, which is only half an hour’s ride from where my Mom and brother live. So while I was visiting them in August 2013, we made the trip to see the big cats. They were wondrous!

Of course, I took tons of photos of the gorgeous, majestic, magnificent animals. And I fully intend to do a page with a few of the best of those shots. But this one that I took of Mom and Phil as the group was moving into the sanctuary for the tour made the cut first. Why? Because it shows my loved ones looking happy and healthy on a day full of sunshine and adventures taken together. And that makes me wildly happy.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper from the Pebbles Family Ties collection. The title is made with Thickers glitter alphas and a chipboard piece from American Crafts. The dies cuts are from Shimelle, the glittered bird 3D sticker is from Little Yellow Bicycle, and the doily is from the Silhouette store.

It’s okay to shine

April 30, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 3 Comments

It's okay to shine is a one-photo scrapbook layout using products from Echo Park and a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.

Tomorrow would have been my sister-in-law’s 40th birthday. To celebrate her life, rather than dwell on how we lost her far too soon because of a drunk driver, I created this page using a photo of her from her high school days. She was a beauty.

Happy birthday, Thyia. I miss your shy smile, our long telephone calls, and getting the opportunity to know the 40-year-old woman you would have become.

Product/technique notes

I followed the April 18th sketch from Let’s Get Sketchy and used products from the Echo Park We Are Family collection (6×6 pad) and Shimelle (die cut title circle).
