10th grade begins

September 5, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 6 Comments

10th grade begins is a scrapbook page that features a 1982 of me and my brother on the first day of 10th grade and uses papers from the My Mind's Eye Market Street collection.

High school is such a big deal. It’s a huge transition for all of us. Everything about it is new–the bus route, the building, the teachers, the classes. It’s nerve wracking and exciting and the beginning of the next big thing.

My bro and I started 10th grade at Willoughby South High School on August 31, 1982. We look ready for anything, don’t we? 😉

Product/technique notes

I followed this Let’s Get Sketchy color combo and sketch for this page and supplies from the My Mind’s Eye Market Street 6×6 paper pad:

Taking requests

August 31, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

Taking requests is a one-photo scrapbook page.

This is just a sweet photo of my three-year-old baby brother strumming his toy guitar (like a violin) in his pajamas in September 1971. Pretty cute, huh?

Product/technique notes

I followed this sketch from Boys Rule. The background paper is from Echo Park’s Walking on Sunshine collection, and the other patterns are from BasicGrey, Crate Paper and We R Memory Keepers.

Free spirit

August 30, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 7 Comments

This scrapbook page is entitled Free spirit and features one photo.

I’ve always liked this photo of my sister-in-law, Thyia. I miss her so and just wanted to work on a page about her.

Product/technique notes

I followed this sketch from Let’s Get Sketchy. The background paper is from Teresa Collins, and I found bits and pieces from my scrap bin to put together the rest.

Mobile

August 29, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

This 1-photo scrapbook page is entitled "Mobile."

Sometimes I still take a moment to marvel at how we can work from anywhere. I know it’s a part of most of our everyday lives, but I still remember vividly what it was like before the mobile world was born.

I took this photo in August 2012 when I was visiting my family in North Carolina. My brother and I were sitting in a cute coffee shop, and he was taking care of business while we hung out.

Product/technique notes

I followed sketch #111 from My Scraps & More as well as the Scrap & Chat challenge at Paper Issues. This is the sketch:
My Scraps & More sketch #111

And the PI challenge called for choosing one row of four from the table—vertical, horizontal or diagonal—and featuring those four supplies on your project. I used flair, patterned paper, die cuts and enamel dots from this table:
Paper Issues August Scrap & Chat Challenge

I liked the idea of limiting my color palette on this page to that of most of our mobile devices: silver, black and white. So I used a few black-and-white patterned papers from Studio Calico 6×6 pads and then stamped my own patterns for the bottom two rows of diamonds. I wanted the black-to-white ratio in the patterns to go from darkest at the top of the page to lightest at the bottom. The chalkboard flair is from Crate Paper, and I wrote my brother’s initial on it with a chalk marker. The striped enamel dots are from Queen & Co.

The boys of summer

August 12, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

The boys of summer is a scrapbook page made with Echo Park's Walking on Sunshine collection.

My brother and I started college at the same time and lived in freshmen dorms that were situated next to each other, so we had a lot of friends in common. Rich lived in Phil’s dorm, and we both quickly became friends with him because he was smart, loyal and lots of fun.

As we were wrapping up our first year and packing to go home for the summer Phil invited Rich to come up to Willoughby for a visit; this photo is from that July 1986 visit.

Product/technique notes

I followed this Boys Rule sketch and used products from the Echo Park Walking on Sunshine collection for this page. I had a lot of fun with the hand stitching on this one, too.
