Easter together 1983

May 7, 2018 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

Easter together 1983

The story

Aunt Mary Lou and Earl lived only two hours away in Pennsylvania, so we had many happy visits from them over the years. But my maternal grandparents lived far away in California, which meant we saw them but rarely over the years. That makes this 1983 photo op, just after we had all returned from Easter Mass, pretty special.

Also worth noting is that Mom sewed my darling two-piece outfit.

Product/technique notes

I created this page for the “Frost the Cake” Paper Issues spring crop challenge, which required that we use stripes of either patterned paper or paint for the page’s background.

I used papers from the Simple Stories Faith and American Crafts Welcome Spring collections.

March 15 2018 Stuck?! Sketches

The story

Our mom is a K-8 teacher, so growing up we always had lots of school and art supplies at the ready for a crafty session or a school project.

What I love about this October 1973 photo she took of us painting is 1) how focused we are on our projects (very serious faces), and 2) all the little details I remember so well about our basement that we spent so much time in. In the front left corner is a blackboard that we wrote on constantly. In fact, I often kept it filled with the newest menu items at my make-believe restaurant. In the back left is the desk where I remember Daddy writing checks and doing other adult tasks. The dress hanging from the ceiling is one of many that Mom lovingly sewed for me over the years. The chest of drawers that you can seen beyond me was where Mom kept all her fabrics, patterns, and sewing notions. The white brick chimney framing the right side of the photo is where they used to shovel in the coal to heat the house (when it was newly built—not when we lived there!).

Product/technique notes

I used products from Echo Park’s I’d Rather Be Crafting collection, DCWV’s Spring Bloom stack, Crate Paper’s Craft Market collection, and The Paper Studio. That camera flair is old American Crafts.

We belong together forever & always: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

February 15, 2018 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

We belong together forever & always!

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our second challenge of February. Grab the sketch and play along for prizes from Cuts2Luv and Lawn Fawn.

February 15 2018 - Stuck?! Sketches

The story

Matt and I married on October 4th, and in 2014 our friends Mary and Chuck married on that same date. So we celebrated our 17th anniversary at a wedding! Matt doesn’t dress up often, so I love this photo of him next to me in his dressy duds.

Product/technique notes

I used products from Carta Bella’s Flora No. 1 collection, My Mind’s Eye, and Pink Paislee. I also turned the sketch on its side to accommodate my vertical photo.

Frosty winter walk: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

Frosty winter walk

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our first challenge of February. Grab the sketch and play along for prizes from Accent Scrapbooking and Scrapbook Nerd.

Stuck?! Sketches February 1 2018 sketch

The story

All I know about this photo is that it’s 15-year-old me out on a winter walk. I don’t know exactly who I was with or where we were. But I like it, so I scrapped it.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper and stickers from Echo Park’s Wintertime collection. The snowflake circle is a cut file from the Silhouette store, and I designed the title to cut on my Cameo, as well.

And now here are my top ten favorite pages from the past year (in chronological order):

Hello gorgeous
I love this one because even with all those beautiful patterns and colors, our girl’s eyes still steal the show. She’s a stunner.

Smiles from ear to ear
This one was fun to make because I was able to work in so many references to Disney, including those Mickey ears in the top left.

Re-homing Hector
Hector was a turtle we found strolling down our busy street and scooped up so we could take him to a nearby pond. I like the simplicity of this page, allowing the story to be told by the patterned papers.

This page makes me happy because of the cute picture of my hubby and how the patterns and embellishment clusters work together. It’s a little bit masculine (but not too much!).

Easter Memories Duffys 1968
Again, I think I like this page because of the interplay of patterns and colors, not to mention that super sweet photo of my cousins on Easter morning 1968.

Bathing beauty
I love using bright colors and modern patterns with vintage photos…like this one of my mom on her 1965 honeymoon.

Happy hands
This photo of me is one I’ve had printed for ages, awaiting the right inspiration to hit. Once I found the unusual and beautiful color combination in this collection, it came together easily. I’m so pleased to have it recorded.

Cousin connection
If you’ve read this far, you may have noticed that I love to mix lots of patterns on my pages. That, and the fact that I fit four decent sized photos on it, makes me quite happy with this one.

Hello fall
This page turned out just as I imagined it, which is such a joy for a crafter, isnt’ it? It was so much fun to die cut all those leaves and arrange them.

The Melodeon 1999
This photo of my dad reading a Christmas story to us is of such a wonderful memory that I had to do something special to record it. I love how all these bits of patterned paper came together to create my diamond focal point.

And that’s my year in review

Thank you so much for stopping by my spot on the blog hop. If you would like to leave a comment and tell me if you have a favorite from my list, I would love to read it! Comments are always so appreciated.
