Clever boy

Our clever boy, Spenser, on Christmas morning in 1992

In the house I grew up in, we had our Christmas tree set up in the family room right next to the fireplace. It was a picture-perfect little scene. After Santa Claus visited, he always closed the door to the family room, in case one of us kids got up in the night to take a peek (little did Santa know this is the last thing I would have ever done). Then on Christmas morning none of us were allowed into that room until Daddy had opened the door, checked to make sure that Santa had actually stopped by and turned on the tree lights.

And who do you think was the first family member to enter the room? Spenser, our schnauzer! That guy shot through the door as soon as Dad opened it and trotted straight to his stocking. You can see in this photo that he’s laser focused on the stocking with his name on it. What a clever boy.

Product/technique notes

I used an ancient kit by Flair that I’ve had in my stash for five or six years. My design inspiration came from a sketch in the Creative Scrappers sketch book, volume 2.

Setting the table, setting the scene

Thanksgiving 1985

My Aunt Rose was always in charge of the setting of the Thanksgiving table(s), and she made them beautiful. Of course, she did a lot more to prepare for the family Thanksgiving than just the table setting, but I always think of her that way in connection with the holiday of gratitude. Her beautiful tables set the scene for many wonderful family memories.

Product/technique notes

I created this layout using the Die Cuts With a View sketch as inspiration and the DCWV Four Seasons stack. I designed and cut my title with my Cameo.

Second birthday

Here I am opening a little tea set at my birthday party.

This is me opening presents at my second birthday party. I don’t remember it, of course, but my mom tells me that she remembers being really tickled that I said “thank you” each time someone handed me a gift.

Product/technique notes

I followed sketch #256 from Creative Scrappers for this layout and used supplies from Crate Paper’s “Party Day” collection.

Blessed

Me and my paternal grandparents: Thanksgiving 1987

That’s me with my Nana and Papa on Thanksgiving Day in 1987. Our extended family in Pennsylvania always used to gather together for Thanksgiving at Aunt Doo Doo and Uncle Ron’s house, and when this photo was taken we had just cleared away the dishes after a fabulous feast.

I will always hold dear my memories from those years when we spent Thanksgiving with Nana and Papa at the head of our big happy family. We were truly blessed to have them and each other.

Product/technique notes

I created this page using Echo Park’s “Reflections” collection and a few stickers from their “Reflections Fall” collection. I designed the title and cut it on my Cameo.

I’d have it no other way

Selfies are some of my favorite photos.

The 15th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch and play along. This 15th sketch came with the song “Change the world” by Eric Clapton.

Scrap & Music sketch #15

My layout

On this layout I used a photo that Matt and I took of ourselves on our 16th anniversary in October. I drew my inspiration from the lines in the song that say “If I could be king, even for a day; I’d take you as my queen; I’d have it no other way.”

Product/technique notes

Most of the products on this page are from My Mind’s Eye’s “Cut and paste: Adorbs” collection. The title area is a banner cut file from the Silhouette store that I outfitted with the words from the song before cutting.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“Change the world” by Eric Clapton

If I could reach the stars
I’d pull one down for you
Shinin’ on my heart
So you could see the truth
Then this love I have inside
Is everything it sees
But for now I find
It’s only in my dreams

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world

If I could be king, even for a day
I’d take you as my queen
I’d have it no other way
And our love would rule
In this kingdom we have made
Till then I’ll be a fool
Wishing for the day

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world
Baby, if I could change the world

I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world
Baby, if I could change the world

Baby, if I could change… The world
