With a cloud at your feet

Phil is holding Pierre on the left and his brother, Enzo, on the right.

The 16th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch, which I’m proud to have designed, and play along. This 16th sketch came with the song “That’s amore” by Dean Martin.

Scrap & Music sketch #16

My layout

In October my brother lost his sweet cat, Willie, to cancer. The whole time during Willie’s diagnosis and decline were so difficult for Phil, and he was a wonderful daddy/caregiver to him throughout. After Willie’s passing Phil told me that he was going to wait until the new year to start looking for a new companion to adopt; he felt he needed a little time to be ready for it. I encouraged him to try to find two boys—ideally brothers—to adopt. The companionship they provide to each other, and the entertainment Phil would get out of their antics, would be worth the extra work involved.

Then one day about a week after he had told me these plans I got a call from Phil. He was at a pet supply store (remember that he didn’t need any pet supplies at this point) looking at kittens that a rescue organization had placed there. And he had found two brothers! I could hear the barking in the background and the excitement in Phil’s voice.

That night Phil completed the adoption application for the brothers, who were temporarily named Comet and Pluto. After another visit to the pet store to interact with them, a phone interview with the foster mother and then a home visit, Phil was granted the boys. It was a whirlwind process, but nothing compared to the whirlwind romance that happened among Phil and the brothers!

Now Phil has renamed Comet to Pierre (left photo) and Pluto to Enzo. He chose these names with a lot of thought based on his current study of and love for the French language. The brothers are beautiful and smart and growing fast under Phil’s care. He gushes about them on the phone to me and sends frequent photos and videos of their antics and sweet quiet moments. I love it all.

When I told Phil that I wanted to use this sketch and challenge song to do a page about his adoption of Pierre and Enzo, he asked me to use the line “with a cloud at your feet” for the title. That’s amore!

Product/technique notes

Most of the products on this page are from Authentique’s “Strong” collection, and the heart/people paper is from Carta Bella’s “Hello again” line (both from Artful Delight’s September scrapbook kit). I designed and cut the title using my Silhouette Cameo.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“That’s amore” by Dean Martin

In Napoli where love is king
When boy meets girl here’s what they say

When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Vita bella”
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That’s amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That’s amore

(When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Vita bella”
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool)
That’s amore
(When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli)
That’s amore
Lucky fella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool)
That’s amore
(When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli)
That’s amore, (amore)
That’s amore

Second birthday

SecondBirthday_Daquila-Pardo

Here I am opening a little tea set at my birthday party.

This is me opening presents at my second birthday party. I don’t remember it, of course, but my mom tells me that she remembers being really tickled that I said “thank you” each time someone handed me a gift.

Product/technique notes

I followed sketch #256 from Creative Scrappers for this layout and used supplies from Crate Paper’s “Party Day” collection.

Blessed

Me and my paternal grandparents: Thanksgiving 1987

That’s me with my Nana and Papa on Thanksgiving Day in 1987. Our extended family in Pennsylvania always used to gather together for Thanksgiving at Aunt Doo Doo and Uncle Ron’s house, and when this photo was taken we had just cleared away the dishes after a fabulous feast.

I will always hold dear my memories from those years when we spent Thanksgiving with Nana and Papa at the head of our big happy family. We were truly blessed to have them and each other.

Product/technique notes

I created this page using Echo Park’s “Reflections” collection and a few stickers from their “Reflections Fall” collection. I designed the title and cut it on my Cameo.

I’d have it no other way

Selfies are some of my favorite photos.

The 15th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch and play along. This 15th sketch came with the song “Change the world” by Eric Clapton.

Scrap & Music sketch #15

My layout

On this layout I used a photo that Matt and I took of ourselves on our 16th anniversary in October. I drew my inspiration from the lines in the song that say “If I could be king, even for a day; I’d take you as my queen; I’d have it no other way.”

Product/technique notes

Most of the products on this page are from My Mind’s Eye’s “Cut and paste: Adorbs” collection. The title area is a banner cut file from the Silhouette store that I outfitted with the words from the song before cutting.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“Change the world” by Eric Clapton

If I could reach the stars
I’d pull one down for you
Shinin’ on my heart
So you could see the truth
Then this love I have inside
Is everything it sees
But for now I find
It’s only in my dreams

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world

If I could be king, even for a day
I’d take you as my queen
I’d have it no other way
And our love would rule
In this kingdom we have made
Till then I’ll be a fool
Wishing for the day

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world
Baby, if I could change the world

I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world
Baby, if I could change the world

Baby, if I could change… The world

Crib notes

Day 158 of my captivity. 😉

I was recently scrolling through my photo-organizing program looking for something compelling to scrap, and I found these two random pictures of me as a baby. They aren’t particularly good photos, and there’s no special story to tell about them because they really just capture me at about six months old wearing my stylish onsies. But I wanted to scrap them, so I decided to group them together and have a little fun with the journaling and title.

In case the journaling is too small to read, it says:
Day 158 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. Do they really think those look like animals? In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on their clothing. They merely make ridiculous cooing noises and pat my back. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape …

Product/technique notes

I followed this sketch from Juliana Michaels of Paper Bakery. And all the patterned papers are from Crate Paper’s “Little Bo Peep” and “DIY Shop” collections. I created the title in the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software and cut it on my Cameo.
