Here's looking at you, kid

On this beautiful Friday in May, Matt and I decided to cut out of work early and grab a late lunch at our favorite taco joint. While we waited for our order to be brought to us at our sunny spot on their patio, we snapped a photo of each other taking a photo of each other. Who said we don’t know how to party?

Product/technique notes

I used older product from My Mind’s Eye and Jillibean Soup and cut the title with my Silhouette.

Stuck Sketches 15 July 2016

The story

I was home visiting my mom and brother in North Carolina in the summer of 2014. One day we decided we needed to get outside and see something new. So we did a little online research and found what looked like a good fit for our needs: It was a park with multiple hiking trails and a picnic area, and it was within an hour of Mom’s house.

We packed the essentials, donned walking shoes and sun hats, grabbed our cameras, and hopped in the car. Our moods and hopes were high as we sped toward an afternoon of adventure and oneness with nature.

And it wasn’t all bad. I wouldn’t have you picture it that way. But it wasn’t exactly rich with adventure and oneness, either.

As a family unit, we don’t usually get an early start to anything. So, by the time we got to the park it was already pretty late in the afternoon. It seemed nearly deserted, and that was really no surprise considering it was late-August-in-the-south hot and humid. We set up and ate our picnic lunch, and that was nice.

Now full on sandwiches, salad, and ranch-flavored Doritos, it was time for us to take a hike. We loaded up on mosquito spray, grabbed our water bottles, and headed into the woods.

That lasted for all of 10 minutes—and seven of those were excruciating. It was just too much. Mom’s bad knees weren’t faring well on the rocky, root-riddled path. The mosquitoes were epic. And did I mention that it was like visiting Satan’s vacation home in the southern part of hell (Chapel Hill, where my mom lives, has been called the Southern Part of Heaven since a book of that name was published in 1950 by William Meade Prince.)?

Were we wimps? Oh, yes. Did we achieve the health and wellness benefits of a strenuous hike surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation? Not exactly. Did we rescue the disappointing experience with a well-deserved stop for ice cream on the drive home? What do you think? 😉

Product/technique notes

The Echo Park Happy Camper collection was perfect for these photos, so everything but the title came from it. I hand stitched the circle.

Stuck?! Sketches March 15, 2016 sketch

In 1970 the Easter Bunny found clever hiding places for our enormous baskets full of goodies right inside our home! And we cleverly sussed out where they were. Score! Thanks, EB.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper and stickers from Echo Park’s Springtime collection and designed the title with my Silhouette Cameo.

Ollie’s first snow: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

February 1, 2016 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 2 Comments

This scrapbook page is based on the February 1, 2016, Stuck?! Sketches sketch and uses papers from the Echo Park Wintertime collection.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our first challenge of February. Grab the sketch and play along for some great prizes from Heartfelt Creations and A2Z Scraplets.

Stuck Sketches February 1 2016

Living in Texas makes getting any snow at all a cause for celebration for this Ohio girl. So when we had a beautiful little snowfall in February 2004 we took our sweet Oliver out to experience it. As a Texas native born in 2002, this was his first time to put paw to powder.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper and stickers from Echo Park’s Wintertime collection. The snowflake circle is a cut file from the Silhouette store, and I designed the title to cut on my Cameo, as well.

Today Stuck?! Sketches is revealing the September 1st sketch challenge, and it’s a great one. For this challenge we are also partnering with the design team from Scrap Our Stash by including an item from our stash for each of the letters in the word L-A-Y-E-R-S! If you combine the sketch with the stash-busting challenge you can enter your page for prizes at both sites!

Scrap Our Stash September Stash Challenge

It was a real challenge for me to think this way, but these are the items I used:
L = label
A = arrows
Y = yellow cardstock and crochet thread
E = enamel dots
R = rubber charms
S = Silhouette, stamp, staples, stickers, stitches

The story of these photos is a recent one. In early August I flew to North Carolina, where my Mom and brother live, to be with my mom while she had knee-replacement surgery. When you have that surgery the doctors tell you that you must have round-the-clock care for the first two weeks! So we activated Wonder Twin powers to care for our mom. But we decided that taking care of our mom’s every want and need wasn’t enough; her adorable dog, Raleigh, needed a bath as well. (I guess once you get into caregiver mode, you can’t easily turn it off.) Phil took some photos of our dog-washing adventure, and then I took the “after” photo. Raleigh looked beautiful!

Product/technique notes

The papers and stickers I used are from Echo Park’s Walking on Sunshine collection. The swirls are ancient rubber charms from KI Memories. I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette and hand-stitched the circles
