Happy happy days

May 27, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 4 Comments

This two-photo scrapbook layout uses products from Basic Grey.

In the summer of 1968 my mom packed up her two babies (both of us under 18 months) and got on a plane to California to be in her brother’s wedding. That’s me and Phil in the arms of L: Mom and Grandpa and R: Grandma and Grandpa.

CUTE!

Product/technique notes

I created this page using patterns and die cuts from Basic Grey’s “Vivienne” collection because it went so well with these vintage photos. I turned this Stuck?! Sketches May sketch on its side and followed it.
This layout was based on this Stuck?! Sketches May sketch.

Prom portraits

Prom portraits

My husband went to two proms during his high school years. The left photo is of his freshman prom, and the right is of the senior prom. I find it fascinating how much difference in maturity there is in his face between these two shots. And just look at those dresses and tuxedos compared to the styles high schoolers are wearing now!

Everything changes.

Product/technique notes

Most of the products I used on this layout are from GSD. I created the title on the Silhouette and used a bow cut file from the Silhouette store.

We are family: Happy Mother’s Day

May 10, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

This two-photo scrapbook layout celebrates my mom and our family.

It’s impossible to overstate the importance of family and a loving home base in our lives. These two are my home base (since we lost Daddy in 2004). I love them immeasurably.

Happy Mother’s Day to my mommy and all of those who fill a mother role in someone’s life. I hope your day is lovely and love-filled.

The photos are from the summer of 2013, when I visited Mom and Phil in Chapel Hill, NC.

Product/technique notes

This layout was really fun to create! I strung crochet thread across the page in a 2×2-inch grid, then added the photos over the grid and the patterned paper under it. The paper is from Echo Park’s “We Are Family” 6×6 pad. The flair is from Studio Calico.

Niagara Falls 1982

April 26, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 4 Comments

This is a one-page, two-photo scrapbook layout entitled Niagara Falls.

In mid-August 1982 our family took a short vacation to see the Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. It was our last fun little jaunt of the summer before the new school year was to begin.

Did you know?
According to the Wikipedia article on the falls, the three waterfalls known collectively as the Niagara Falls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet. Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate.

They are glorious, aren’t they?

Product/technique notes

I followed My Scraps and More sketch #104 and used supplies from the Fancy Pants “What a Wonderful Day” collection. Where there are stitching lines in the sketch I used various colors of twine to match the papers.

I was thrilled to have my page chosen by My Scraps & More as a top 3!

Golden hour

April 23, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

This is a scrapbook layout with two photos, entitled Golden hour

The hour or so before the sun goes down, known as “golden hour,” is renowned among photographers for the qualities of its light and creative possibilities. It is a wonderful time to shoot photographs because the light is redder and softer compared to when the sun is higher in the sky.

It is also our preferred time to go out for our walk/run. For me it’s both soothing and invigorating: it helps me to unwind, to think, to feel grateful and then to gather energy for the rest of my day.

Product/technique notes

All the Doodlebug and BasicGrey products I used to create this layout came from the Back Porch Memories March kit, and I followed this PageMaps sketch. I created the title on my Silhouette Cameo.
