Swing your partner round and round

May 22, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

Swing your partner round and round is a scrapbook page with one photo from 1973 and products from Chickaniddy Crafts.

During the early 1970s my parents took square dancing lessons with their friends, Bob and Peg Young. Mom tells me that they had taken 18 of the weekly 26-lesson course when my father had his heart attack (yes, he was quite young), which meant that they had to miss the rest of the lessons. However, they both loved square dancing, so whenever the church held a dance they would go promenade, allemande and do-si-do with the best of them.

In this February 1973 photo, taken by one of us kids, Mom and Dad are gussied up and ready to head to a dance at our church. Mom made that dress specifically to wear to square dances.

Product/technique notes

All the patterns on this page are from the Chickaniddy Crafts “Date Night” collection. I was inspired by this sketch from Let’s Capture our Memories. Because of the “round and round” title that I wanted to use, I added a circle of patterned paper so I could shape the title around it.

Prom portraits

May 19, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

Prom portraits

My husband went to two proms during his high school years. The left photo is of his freshman prom, and the right is of the senior prom. I find it fascinating how much difference in maturity there is in his face between these two shots. And just look at those dresses and tuxedos compared to the styles high schoolers are wearing now!

Everything changes.

Product/technique notes

Most of the products I used on this layout are from GSD. I created the title on the Silhouette and used a bow cut file from the Silhouette store.

Thankful for such happy days together

May 8, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

This is a one-page, one-photo scrapbook page using My Mind's Eye products.

This photos is from a really happy time. It was Easter in 1992, and I was living back at home with Mom and Dad in Willoughby and working as a conference planner at ASM International. Spenser was just over a year old and was a pure joy in our lives. Although Phil was living in Pennsylvania, he had come home to spend Easter with us. So things were pretty great.

This photo reminds me to be thankful for happy days.

Product/technique notes

I created this layout using products from the My Mind’s Eye Now & Then > Ginger collection.

First Communion 1975

May 3, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

This 2-page, 8-photo scrapbook layout documents my First Communion in 1975.

Phil and I made our First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 3, 1975—40 years ago today!

I remember so much about that special day. My mom made my beautiful dress. Fr. Francis Curran, our pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby, celebrated the Mass. And I was so happy that all our relatives came for our big day.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned papers from the My Mind’s Eye “stella & rose » gertie” collection and cut a title with my Silhouette. With all the patterns plus eight photos, I decided to keep this design simple.

Niagara Falls 1982

April 26, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 4 Comments

This is a one-page, two-photo scrapbook layout entitled Niagara Falls.

In mid-August 1982 our family took a short vacation to see the Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. It was our last fun little jaunt of the summer before the new school year was to begin.

Did you know?
According to the Wikipedia article on the falls, the three waterfalls known collectively as the Niagara Falls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet. Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate.

They are glorious, aren’t they?

Product/technique notes

I followed My Scraps and More sketch #104 and used supplies from the Fancy Pants “What a Wonderful Day” collection. Where there are stitching lines in the sketch I used various colors of twine to match the papers.

I was thrilled to have my page chosen by My Scraps & More as a top 3!
