Second birthday

SecondBirthday_Daquila-Pardo

Here I am opening a little tea set at my birthday party.

This is me opening presents at my second birthday party. I don’t remember it, of course, but my mom tells me that she remembers being really tickled that I said “thank you” each time someone handed me a gift.

Product/technique notes

I followed sketch #256 from Creative Scrappers for this layout and used supplies from Crate Paper’s “Party Day” collection.

Blessed

Me and my paternal grandparents: Thanksgiving 1987

That’s me with my Nana and Papa on Thanksgiving Day in 1987. Our extended family in Pennsylvania always used to gather together for Thanksgiving at Aunt Doo Doo and Uncle Ron’s house, and when this photo was taken we had just cleared away the dishes after a fabulous feast.

I will always hold dear my memories from those years when we spent Thanksgiving with Nana and Papa at the head of our big happy family. We were truly blessed to have them and each other.

Product/technique notes

I created this page using Echo Park’s “Reflections” collection and a few stickers from their “Reflections Fall” collection. I designed the title and cut it on my Cameo.

Crib notes

Day 158 of my captivity. 😉

I was recently scrolling through my photo-organizing program looking for something compelling to scrap, and I found these two random pictures of me as a baby. They aren’t particularly good photos, and there’s no special story to tell about them because they really just capture me at about six months old wearing my stylish onsies. But I wanted to scrap them, so I decided to group them together and have a little fun with the journaling and title.

In case the journaling is too small to read, it says:
Day 158 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. Do they really think those look like animals? In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on their clothing. They merely make ridiculous cooing noises and pat my back. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape …

Product/technique notes

I followed this sketch from Juliana Michaels of Paper Bakery. And all the patterned papers are from Crate Paper’s “Little Bo Peep” and “DIY Shop” collections. I created the title in the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software and cut it on my Cameo.

Ghouls just want to have fun

The fairy princess and the wizard are ready to party!

I met Joanie in grade school at Immaculate Conception. She was the older sister of my classmate, Matt, and our friendship began not long before she graduated from eighth grade and moved on to junior high/high school. When I graduated and began high school elsewhere, that seems to be when our friendship really took off!

It was wonderful having a good friend outside of my high school circle. It meant that when we got together we could really catch up on what had been happening in our individual lives. I particularly remember enjoying the times Joanie had me over to her house to spend the night. I loved the contrast of spending time in her larger family (5 kids as compared to the 2 in my family), and they always made me feel quite at home. One time we even got snowed in while I was staying over (awesome).

In this photo I was about to turn 17, Joanie would have been 18, and we were heading out to a Halloween party. I don’t remember who threw the party, but I do remember us planning our costumes and getting excited together. What a good time that was, and what an important friendship hers was to me.

Product/technique notes

I followed this Creative Scrappers sketch #254 as inspiration for my page. the patterned paper is from Bella Blvd’s “Trick or treat” and “Too cute to spook” collections, an ancient paper from 2006 by KI Memories (the orange background with the text) and some random patterns not related to Halloween. I designed the title using the Nightmare Before Christmas font and also used the witch boots file (Design ID #12941) on my Silhouette.

Learn and grow

October 1, 2013 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

So, whether it has really sunk in yet or not, October is officially in the hizzy. And sure that means the changing of the colors, visits to pumpkin patches, wearing cozy sweaters with your favorite jeans and daily pumpkin spice latte splurges. So what? Wait, what am I saying? That’s huge! I love fall. So let’s get to it. Bring on the cozy memories and the subsequent cozy scrapbook pages. I’m ready.

I've been wanting to record these first-grade school portraits for ages, and I finally did it (only 40 years after they were taken)!

To kick off the fall feeling, I scrapped these first-grade portraits of my brother and me taken in October 1973—40 years ago! I made the design more symmetrical and formal than my usual style, as I thought this first school portrait was a pretty momentous occasion and deserved a little pomp. It’s clean, simple and classic…or at least that’s what I was aiming for. 😉

Product/technique notes

I created this page using patterns from the BasicGrey “Oxford” collection from a few years ago. The title came from a card design I purchased on the Silhouette store (#27104).
