Curly locks: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our first challenge of March. Grab the sketch and play along for some great prizes from Evalicious and Wycinanka.

There are no curls in Daquila hair. Not even a bend. That’s why I got my first perm in second grade. And that’s why Phil got this body wave in September 1985—just in time to start college. Just look at all that luscious hair!

Product/technique notes

I used patterned paper and stickers from Echo Park’s Note to Self collection and twine for the red accent circle.

It’s your special day: Phil’s 7th birthday

In honor of my baby brother’s 48th birthday, which he celebrated on Friday, I give you a page about his 1975 birthday celebration. When I asked him what he remembered from this photo he said:

Sweet, like Boston cream pie! That is Paul Lazorchak and he gave me that Snoopy hockey game, which I adored. Of course that is my cherished Franco Harris jersey. Lastly, too bad we did not have anti-glare coating at the time . Oh and what luck to capture you on a troop meeting night!

Happy birthday, Phillip Daniel! I wish I could have been there to celebrate with you, my dear.

Product/technique notes

I was inspired to follow the Let’s Get Sketchy week 1 January sketch for this page, and I used all products from the Carta Bella It’s a Celebration collection. It has just the perfect vintage birthday color scheme and feeling. And what kind of crazy luck did I have when I noticed that the birthday cake sticker had seven candles?

Season’s greetings

At the start of the Christmas season in 1977, we got it into our heads to paint a holiday scene on our house’s big front window. Mom and Dad helped us get all set up with tempera paints and brushes, and we all brainstormed what the image should be. Once we settled on a snow couple, Phil and I set to work painting together. What a great project for an almost-10- and 11-year-old!

I think it took a couple days to finish because we were painting on all the little panes of glass, but once it was completed we were all thrilled with the results.

We enjoyed this project so much that we painted a different scene each year after that, mostly recreating images from Christmas cards we had received. After our first year, Dad added to our curb appeal by setting up spotlights in the front yard to shine on our artwork.

It was a special Daquila-family Christmas tradition, and I treasure the memory of how excited I felt each year to create the new design.

I followed the Scrap Much December sketch below and used papers from the Crate Paper Bundle Up collection. The three bling snowflakes are by The Paper Studio.

Santa Baby hurry down the chimney tonight

We loved to bake cookies and pick out the best ones for Santa. Here we are putting out our treats for the big guy on Christmas Eve 1975.

I wish you all a most wonderful Christmas, full of love and cheer and gratitude for all the good things this holiday means!

I used papers from The Paper Studio and Heidi Swapp’s Christmas to create this page. The Santa on the chimney image is from the Silhouette store. And I followed the PageMaps sketch below.

Ho ho ho

It looks to me like I was a Santa fan right from the start. This is Christmas morning 1968, and I am deep in it.

Product/technique notes

I cut the wreath design with a Silhouette file and backed the white cardstock with a glittered snowflake paper from My Mind’s Eye. All the other elements came from two different holiday collections by BasicGrey—Evergreen and Eskimo Kisses.
