That’s a wrap: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

December 15, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

This a one-photo scrapbook page based on the December 15, 2015 sketch from Stuck Sketches.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our second challenge of December. Grab the sketch and play along for some great prizes: Lindy’s Stamp Gang ($25.00 gift certificate) and Scrapmatts (two large pieces of chipboard).

Stuck Sketches December 15 2015

My brother and I have always loved to wrap gifts. We are pretty obviously having a good time with it in this Christmas 1973 photo. I just love that smile on Phil’s face.

Product/technique notes

I used patterned papers from the Chickaniddy Crafts Jolly Good 6×6 paper pad and some very old chipboard elements from K&Co Marcella. I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette.

Note: I’m submitting this to the Paper Issues Owl I Want for Christmas link party.

My favorite things

December 10, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

My favorite things is a two-photo scrapbook page based on the song from The Sound of Music.

One of our family Christmas traditions happened a bit by accident. Over the years we noticed a pattern—on the night that we put up and decorated our Christmas tree, The Sound of Music very often also appeared on television. We all love that movie, so we would be half decorating and half standing with ornaments in our hands while zoned in one the film. Dad was the only one fully focused on the task of getting the tree finished, and did not at all appreciate our halfheartedness.

Nowadays, because you can just pop in the DVD or stream a movie whenever you want, it doesn’t seem like a big deal. But back in the day it was special serendipity to have it showing on our tree-decorating night. And so the accidental tradition was formed.

Based on the song My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music, I created this page of our sweet Lucy under our Christmas tree in 2008. Like most cats, she loves, loves, loves Christmas trees. And presents.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens.
Brown paper packages tied up with strings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Product/technique notes

The background paper is from Simple Stories December Documented collection, the patterns in the frames are from Pink Paislee’s Snow Village 6×6 pad, and the frames cut file is from the Silhouette store. I designed and cut the title on my Silhouette also.

Kewl

November 22, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo Leave a Comment

Kewl is a one-photo scrapbook page created using Crate Paper patterns.

Matt and I met a friend at the Fredericksburg Oktoberfest this year, and although I took lots of fun photos of our day there, I liked this one the best. Just two guys looking kewl.

Product/technique notes

The background paper I used is from KI Memories, and the rest of the patterns are from a Crate Paper Boys Rule 6×6 paper pad.

Everything still turns to gold: DT layout for Stuck?! Sketches

November 15, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 6 Comments

Everything still turns to gold is a one-photo scrapbook page designed using the November 15, 2015 sketch from Stuck Sketches.

Today Stuck?! Sketches launches our second challenge of November. The sketch is beautiful, and the prizes from 7 Dots Studio and Freckled Fawn are great. Why not play along with us?

Stuck Sketches November 15 2015 sketch

For this challenge we are partnering up with Scrap it with a Song, and they have chosen Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin as their inspiration song. You can find out all the details about how to play along with their challenge over on their blog.

I had another listen to Stairway to Heaven so that I could decide how to use its inspiration on a layout. And when I got to the line “Everything still turns to gold” it made me think of autumn leaves. So I pulled out this photo I took two years ago on a trip to see the fall colors up in Lost Maples State Natural Area in Texas. Isn’t that spider web glorious against the colors of the turning leaves?

Product/technique notes

The background paper on my layout is from American Crafts. I loved it for this page because it imitates the structure of a cobweb. The rest of the patterns are from a BasicGrey Indian Summer 6×6 pad. The die cuts are from Crate Paper, and the Feels like fall fabric sticker is from My Little Bicycle. The circle built of leaves is a cut file from the Silhouette store, and I designed and cut the title on the Silhouette as well.

Texas Book Festival

October 31, 2015 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 7 Comments

Texas Book Festival 2015 is a two-photo scrapbook page I created using papers from Crate Paper's Notes & Things and BasicGrey's Fiction collections.

Because I am participating in National Novel Writing Month for the first time this November, Matt and I attended the Texas Book Festival in downtown Austin. It was the 20th anniversary of the festival this October, and we spent a lovely day down at the Capitol among book lovers and enjoying beautiful weather.

Product/technique notes

I am participating in the ScraptoberFest challenges, and with this page I have created a layout combining all (4) challenges on one layout for a chance to win the BONUS prize! I created it using papers from Crate Paper’s Notes & Things and BasicGrey’s Fiction collections. The flair is from BasicGrey’s Aurora collection. The washi tapes are both from Studio G. The frame is from another Crate Paper collection. And I designed the title to look like the Texas Book Festival logo and cut it on my Silhouette.
