Open mind for a different view

If you haven't tried ziplining, you're missing out on a lot of fun!

The 18th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch, which I’m proud to have designed, and play along. This sketch came with the song “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica.

Scrap & Music sketch #18

My layout

When Matt and I were approaching our 15th wedding anniversary last year, we discussed how we should spend the day to celebrate it. We really liked the idea of trying something new together and finally settled on ziplining. Exciting, right? It was a terribly cold day for early October, so we layered up our clothing and headed out to Wimberley, Texas for our adventure.

What a completely fun time we had! Our little group of fellow zipliners were cool people, the young men who were our guides through the whole experience were very patient and helpful and the 10 zipline runs we each got to make were awesome. Exhilarating. A touch challenging. And absolutely a do-again activity. If you haven’t yet, do yourself a favor and try it.

Product/technique notes

I used several patterns from the Crate Paper “Acorn Avenue” 6×6 paper pad to create the layers on this design. The stickers in my title are from Jillibean Soup, October Afternoon and Thickers.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica

So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close no matter how far
It couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

I never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

It feels like home

December 15, 2013 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

We bought our first home as a married couple in 1998 and lived there for 3 years.

The 17th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch and play along. This 17th sketch came with the song “Like a Prayer” by Madonna.

Scrap & Music sketch #17

My layout

The line “And it feels like home” from Madonna’s song made me think of some photos I took of the home Matt and I bought when we were first married. We lived in North Carolina then, and when I was visiting there last summer my mom, brother and I went over to our old house to get some photos. We lived on a corner with a little hill for a front yard. And very close to our house was a pond where we’d go for walks almost every day. It was a sweet first home.

* I think my brother took most of these photos.

Product/technique notes

Everything on this page came from the American Crafts Dear Lizzy “5th & Frolic” collection except the little nest/eggs flair badge, which is from an older AC collection. I designed the title in the Silhouette software, and the bows are from the Silhouette store.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“Like a Prayer” by Madonna

Life is a mystery
Everyone must stand alone
I hear you call my name
And it feels like home

When you call my name
It’s like a little prayer
I’m down on my knees
I want to take you there
In the midnight hour
I can feel your power
Just like a prayer
You know I’ll take you there

I hear your voice
It’s like an angel sighing
I have no choice
I hear your voice
Feels like flying
I close my eyes
Oh God, I think I’m falling
Out of the sky
I close my eyes
Heaven, help me

When you call my name
It’s like a little prayer
I’m down on my knees
I want to take you there
In the midnight hour
I can feel your power
Just like a prayer
You know I’ll take you there

Like a child
You whisper softly to me
You’re in control
Just like a child
Now I’m dancing
It’s like a dream
No end and no beginning
You’re here with me
It’s like a dream
Let the choir sing

When you call my name
It’s like a little prayer
I’m down on my knees
I want to take you there
In the midnight hour
I can feel your power
Just like a prayer
You know I’ll take you there

When you call my name
It’s like a little prayer
I’m down on my knees
I want to take you there
In the midnight hour
I can feel your power
Just like a prayer
You know I’ll take you there

Life is a mystery
Everyone must stand alone
I hear you call my name
And it feels like home

Just like a prayer
Your voice can take me there
Just like a muse to me
You are a mystery
Just like a dream
You are not what you seem
Just like a prayer, no choice
Your voice can take me there

Just like a prayer, I’ll take you there
It’s like a dream to me

Just like a prayer
Your voice can take me there
Just like a muse to me
You are a mystery
Just like a dream
You are not what you seem
Just like a prayer, no choice
Your voice can take me there

Just like a prayer, I’ll take you there
It’s like a dream to me

With a cloud at your feet

Phil is holding Pierre on the left and his brother, Enzo, on the right.

The 16th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch, which I’m proud to have designed, and play along. This 16th sketch came with the song “That’s amore” by Dean Martin.

Scrap & Music sketch #16

My layout

In October my brother lost his sweet cat, Willie, to cancer. The whole time during Willie’s diagnosis and decline were so difficult for Phil, and he was a wonderful daddy/caregiver to him throughout. After Willie’s passing Phil told me that he was going to wait until the new year to start looking for a new companion to adopt; he felt he needed a little time to be ready for it. I encouraged him to try to find two boys—ideally brothers—to adopt. The companionship they provide to each other, and the entertainment Phil would get out of their antics, would be worth the extra work involved.

Then one day about a week after he had told me these plans I got a call from Phil. He was at a pet supply store (remember that he didn’t need any pet supplies at this point) looking at kittens that a rescue organization had placed there. And he had found two brothers! I could hear the barking in the background and the excitement in Phil’s voice.

That night Phil completed the adoption application for the brothers, who were temporarily named Comet and Pluto. After another visit to the pet store to interact with them, a phone interview with the foster mother and then a home visit, Phil was granted the boys. It was a whirlwind process, but nothing compared to the whirlwind romance that happened among Phil and the brothers!

Now Phil has renamed Comet to Pierre (left photo) and Pluto to Enzo. He chose these names with a lot of thought based on his current study of and love for the French language. The brothers are beautiful and smart and growing fast under Phil’s care. He gushes about them on the phone to me and sends frequent photos and videos of their antics and sweet quiet moments. I love it all.

When I told Phil that I wanted to use this sketch and challenge song to do a page about his adoption of Pierre and Enzo, he asked me to use the line “with a cloud at your feet” for the title. That’s amore!

Product/technique notes

Most of the products on this page are from Authentique’s “Strong” collection, and the heart/people paper is from Carta Bella’s “Hello again” line (both from Artful Delight’s September scrapbook kit). I designed and cut the title using my Silhouette Cameo.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“That’s amore” by Dean Martin

In Napoli where love is king
When boy meets girl here’s what they say

When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Vita bella”
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That’s amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That’s amore

(When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Vita bella”
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool)
That’s amore
(When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli)
That’s amore
Lucky fella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool)
That’s amore
(When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli)
That’s amore, (amore)
That’s amore

I’d have it no other way

Selfies are some of my favorite photos.

The 15th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch and play along. This 15th sketch came with the song “Change the world” by Eric Clapton.

Scrap & Music sketch #15

My layout

On this layout I used a photo that Matt and I took of ourselves on our 16th anniversary in October. I drew my inspiration from the lines in the song that say “If I could be king, even for a day; I’d take you as my queen; I’d have it no other way.”

Product/technique notes

Most of the products on this page are from My Mind’s Eye’s “Cut and paste: Adorbs” collection. The title area is a banner cut file from the Silhouette store that I outfitted with the words from the song before cutting.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“Change the world” by Eric Clapton

If I could reach the stars
I’d pull one down for you
Shinin’ on my heart
So you could see the truth
Then this love I have inside
Is everything it sees
But for now I find
It’s only in my dreams

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world

If I could be king, even for a day
I’d take you as my queen
I’d have it no other way
And our love would rule
In this kingdom we have made
Till then I’ll be a fool
Wishing for the day

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world
Baby, if I could change the world

I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could change the world
Baby, if I could change the world

Baby, if I could change… The world

More than words

On the gorgeous UNC-Chapel Hill campus

The 14th sketch challenge has been posted at the SCRAP & MUSIC challenge blog! Head over to the site to grab the sketch and play along. This 14th sketch came with the song “More than words” by Extreme.

Scrap & Music sketch #14

My layout

One day this summer my mom, brother and I took a walk around the gorgeous UNC-Chapel Hill campus where Phil went to grad school and now works. It was a great day for photos. I especially liked this one of them with South Building (the university’s main administrative building, built in 1814) in the background.

I paired this photo with the challenge song, “More than words,” simply because I love these two more than words.

Product/technique notes

The patterned papers on this page are from Echo Park’s “Beautiful life” collection. Because of all that great open space in my photo I decided to add my title right on the photo with Photoshop before printing it.

The challenge

The challenges on this blog involve following the sketch and using a title on your layout with a line from the provided music. Below I’ve included the video as well as the lyrics for this song:

“More than words” by Extreme
Saying ‘I Love you’
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you not to say
But if you only know
How easy it would be to show me how you feel

More than words
Is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say
That you love me ’cause I’d already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two?

More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real

What would you say if I took those words away?

Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying ‘I love you’

More than words

Now that I’ve tried to
Talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is
Close your eyes and just reach out your hands
And touch me, hold me close
Don’t ever let me go

More than words
Is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn’t have to say
That you love me ’cause I’d already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two?

More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real

What would you say if I took those words away?

Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying ‘I love you’
