Blogtoberfest Day 2

October 2, 2011 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 1 Comment

Celebrate Blogtoberfest with me all month!

Happy Phileas Fogg Day!

Did you read “Around the World in Eighty Days” as a child? Well, I remember my brother reading and loving it when we were kids. So, when I learned that today is Phileas Fogg Day (in honor of the book’s main character), I had to make him a card in the style of the time. Because he is starting a new job tomorrow, I made it a congratulations card. Good luck tomorrow morning, Philly!

Blogtoberfest Day 1

October 1, 2011 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 5 Comments

Celebrate Blogtoberfest with me all month!

I was amazed to realize recently that I have been blogging as The Constant Scrapper for a year now! I was so hesitant to start this blog because I was concerned that I wouldn’t have enough to say. It’s funny to me now to think about that because when you really love something you just can’t run out of things to say about it. That’s a happy lesson learned for me. πŸ™‚

I feel like celebrating! So I have created “Blogtoberfest.” For the whole month of October I am going to have a party on my blog. I will provide fall projects and tutorials, post challenges and have giveaways. I’m very excited to celebrate this way with you, and I truly hope to provide content and fun projects that will bring you back each day and make you want to participate with me. If you want to chug a frosty mug while visiting each day, I’ll send you a virtual “Prosit!”

World Card Making Day 2011

My first day of celebration comes in the form of World Card Making Day. How kind of the paper crafting powers that be to schedule this event to coordinate with day one of Blogtoberfest!

I have created two cards for today’s post, and the theme of these is “create a card that mimics the shape of your thought.” What, you say? I know; that’s what my husband said when I told him, too. But the visual aids I had for him made this clearer.

This first card reads “#JustSayin’,” which is something I like to say to my husband after telling him a random fact. It makes us snicker because we’re using Twitter terms in our everyday speech. We’re cool like that. πŸ™‚ Then inside it continues with the theme by reading “You’re TWEET!” Get it? The shape of the card (speech bubble) mimics the thought I’m trying to so coolly convey.

Put a hash tag in front of pretty much anything you say to increase your cool quotient by a factor of 10. πŸ˜‰

YoureTweet_Daquila-Pardo

Twitter humor at its finest, don't you think?

The second card satisfies my love of puns. I used the shape of a house and paper pieced the details to make it homey. Then inside it reads “House it going?” Ahh, the simple joys of life…like making myself giggle. I hope it makes you giggle, too, of course. πŸ˜‰

This little house card is sized so that it will fit in a standard envelope.

House it going, Homey?

So, I guess my World Card Making Day challenge to you is going to be pretty obvious: Make a card that mimics the shape of your message. If you take this challenge, please link it up here in the comments so we can all come take a look at it and give you lots of comment love.

My kind of bouquet

Twisted Sketches has revealed its latest sketch, #111, and the twist is “buttons.” Be sure to head over to the site to grab the sketch, then create something and link it up! πŸ™‚

Twisted Sketches #111

Here’s my Design Team layout inspired by the sketch. The patterned papers I used on this very colorful layout are from American Crafts’ Margarita line.

Bouquet_Daquila-Pardo

My darling man brought home a bouquet of Copic markers for me "just because." He's a keeper!

The journaling on my page reads: “Matt came home from work on Thursday and said, ‘I got something for you; it’s on the table.’ It was a bag full of Copic markers! I was so surprised…and excited…and touched. What an amazing thing to do just because.”

I cut that 3×3 envelope with my Silhouette and added it so that I could tuck in a thank you card to Matt (my way of including a more personal thank you to my generous and thoughtful honey). It’s the first thing I’ve ever made using Copics. And so my new obsession begins. πŸ™‚

This hydrangea card was made using my new Copic markers.

My first try at misting

July 13, 2011 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 2 Comments

My dear mother’s birthday was yesterday, and of course I created a card to send with her gifts. But I didn’t want to post it here until she had received it (just in case she peeked in here). I have been plucking up my courage to try misting, and this card is my first attempt. See those clouds in the background? I punched out several clouds with my Fiskars punches and placed them randomly on a white card base. After misting the card with turquoise Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist I peeled away the masks to reveal my sky background. I really like it, don’t you?

Who's having a birthday? card

I stamped and paper pieced this card for my mom's birthday.

Young Crafters Unite blog hop!

July 1, 2011 By Janice Daquila-Pardo 81 Comments

Young Crafters Unite Blog Hop header

Hi everyone, and welcome to the next stop on the Young Crafters Unite Blog Hop! If you’re following along the hop you should be arriving here from Chari Moss’ blog (She makes such adorable cards!). If you aren’t a hopper but want to join in the fun you can start at the beginning by visiting the Young Crafters Unite website.

Why do I consider myself a young crafter?

I always feel younger than the calendar says I am. I really believe that being “young” or “old” is up to us. So I act the way I want to feel. And crafting is one of the things I do that helps me stay young. Shopping for crafting supplies surely must reduce wrinkles because it makes me giddy like a little girl. And the feeling I get when I start to cut, stamp and glue things together…well, if my hair was longer I would put it up in pigtails! I suspect all crafters are young crafters. πŸ™‚

My “favorite thing” project

We were asked to create a new project using our favorite things, and I chose to create a layout using two favorite things:

  1. These photos are of my brother, Phil, and me at the baby pool in our hometown. I love everything about these photos: Phil’ls scrunchy smile, our darling bathing suits pushed low on our round bellies, our suntanned skin, our happy faces and my memories of many hours spent at that pool together with our mom. Wow, these are awesome photos!
  2. I recently created a tutorial about crocheting on your scrapbook pages, so that’s my new favorite technique! I’ve used it on this layout to create the sun element. It takes some extra time, so I’ll probably save it for more special photos/memories, but I love the even more handmade and vintage feel it gives to my layouts. πŸ™‚

More of my personal favorites

I thought I would also share just a few more of my recent layouts and cards because they are all about being or staying young, and they make me happy to look at!

I think you are…
I made this little set of 2×3-inch cards so that I could occasionally pop a love note in my husband’s laptop bag before he leaves the house. Why does food with faces make us smile?

IThinkYouAre_Daquila-Pardo

I think you are...hot, cool, sweet and cheesy!

I am I because my little dog knows me
I can’t help itβ€”I love this layout. That photo of our precious family dog, Spenser, is from 1991 when he was only a few months old. We all adored him and he adored us. And I think this Gertrude Stein quote is awesome.

IAmI_Daquila-Pardo

I think this Gertrude Stein quote is all this layout needed to capture my feeling.

He will go far
This is a photo from 2000, when our nephew Jerad was only 4. I thought this new October Afternoon line, Rocket Age, would work perfectly to highlight all the potential I see in his little face.

HeWillGoFar_Daquila-Pardo

This outer space-themed paper just seemed like the perfect way to showcase a child's potential.

Thank you so much for hopping by today. Don’t forget to leave a comment on this post because there are prizes up for grabs for some lucky participants. Randomly selected commenters will have the opportunity to win prizes from Simon Says Stamp, Paper Smooches and Lawn Fawn! Comment by Monday, July 4th at 11:59PM CST to win; winners will be announced Wednesday, July 6th at noon CST.

The next young crafter on this hop is Kelly Latevola (This woman is a master with Distress Inks!). Thanks again for stopping by, and I do hope you’ll come back again soon.
